Hi had a visit recently from my QI inspector with regards to setting up as a childminder, She did a dummy run of an ofsted visit but I felt that some of the points made were over the top or just plain ridiculous

Is there anyway to find out ofsted view's on this ?

Can I ring them and ask ?

You could ring OFSTED but it's down to the inspector you get, and they are notoriously inconsistent - you could have one who's even worse.

What did she say? If you post here more experienced CMs will be able to advise whether it's normal or not.

Hi called ofsted and spoke to a lady and she said as long as i risk assess the issues a long as the ofsted inspector didn't seem them as a big risk to the children then that would probably be ok.

one issue i have a few threadbare patches on my carpet in the hall, \i know it needs replacing.

Also the bannister on my stairs which has a large open space then a piece of wood in the middle of it - again if i risk assess then should be ok

Hmm What did the other woman expect you to do? New carpet and new bannister?

OFSTED are silly but they don't usually expect major home improvements! Usually it's more like having a dispenser for paper towels in your loo instead of a hand towel for infection control purposes...

no suggested a new carpet and spending loads sorting the bannister.

I did point out that this was also my home and not a nursery and whilst i appreciated her input i could not see how this would affect the care of the children.

Another one i have a long drive way which is paved she said i need a gate from the side of the house to the fench to prevent people jumping over and getting to the children, I said they woluld be supervised by me at all times whist out there. Ofsted just said i need to consider what i would do if there was an accident / incident at the other end of the garden which i have done
