Do you do observations as a childminder and are we supposed to do them?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

yes you can, are you a minder now? Are you using a diary?

JenumGeranium · 02/11/2005 17:10

I am a minder now, but I am not using a diary!

You should be, they help protect your back, they are so good for past reference, seeing what they were doing a month ago, last week. They are so good for communication between both parties, i tell mine they can write if they have had a sleepless night or if meds have been given.

Cheap as chip in tesco and asda (50p) get the small hardback ones rather than softback.

So what do you write in them? Anything that the child does that you think is worth noting? Or do you mean a book that goes between me and the parents?

I do have these!

Mine is a record of food eaten, nappy changes/toilet training progress, medicine given, toys played with, where been etc. I used to put about behaviour in there but then Theprisoner (i think it was you anyway) mentioned about it being nice for parents to have a book to show granny etc. and so she doesn't put behaviour problems in there. I also have now decided to make it more positive and put only good behaviour comments. I speak to parents about bad behaviour if required.

I also have a book for personal notes say if you're worried about the care of a child or anything you feel you need to note - this would not go to the parents!

sorry jen, the first book is to go back and forth for parents to see. I also ask them to note anything like medicine given etc (like jelly)
