You really need to do research in you own particular town/village as prices vary so much over the country, even just a few miles apart. If it helps I'm in Berkshire and I charge £4.50ph.

I paid £35 per whole day (or £4 per hour) to my cm - Midlands. This did not include meals. I paid an extra £1.50 per week towards activities (toddler group etc) and occasionally paid £10 or so towards extra special outings which were optional.

I'm also in Berkshire and charge £4.30ph. You need to also think about what's included in that price, whether or not you charge for your/their holiday etc. I offer an all inclusive price so in that £4.30ph they get nappies, wipes, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks, outings etc. We're all different but yes, you definitely need to look at what is charged in your own town/village. Best thing to do is contact your local FIS (Family Information Service) and get a list of childminders local to your postcode.

Meant to add that the rate I quoted did include snacks and drinks. (and the snacks were wonderful, always a beautiful selection of different seasonal fruits plus other things)

Like NickNacks said - you need to research your area.

Just as an example:

I am in Berkshire. I charge £46 per day 0800-1800, this includes meals, snacks, nappies, milk, toddler groups, outings, etc etc.

I don't charge if I am not available, but charge full fee if I am.

I am registered to provide overnight care for £70 per night and I charge double time at weekends.

I do not work Bank Holidays, nor do I charge for them.

I do term time only contracts, holiday only contracts and ad-hoc days. I do not do school drop off and pick up.

I can almost guarantee you that no-one else has exactly the same arrangements as me, because each CM works out what works best for them and their family/business.

Another thought.......you may want to charge a different rate for less hours i.e I charge a higher rate is booking less than 8 hours care in the day. I also charge more outside my core hours of 8-6 (all detailed on my [[www.helenslittleangels.co.uk website if of any use). It's a shame they took the government website away as it was quite easy to check everyone's prices out.

I pay £4.50 an hour for both my boys, plus £10 a week petrol, plus £8 a week food.

looneytune · 16/04/2011 11:32

Is this a childminder you pay petrol to? I thought we weren't legally allowed to charge for petrol, something to do with insurance being like a taxi or something? (plus we claim mileage)
