Totally stuck here.
I look after a full time 2 year old. This week I am supposed to be on a weeks leave - paid at half rates (parents choice)

Then next week I am supposed to minding child Monday - Thursday as friday a Bank Holiday. However, the parents asked if I could swap over days off. This suited me as DH is away this week (he's supposed to be off too) and now hasnext week off instead. it was going to be a relatively straighforward swap over of days.
However, the dad has just been to pick child up - was meant to have till 5pm - and says he's been signed off, so will have child tomorrow "if I like", but I can still have days off next week since DH is back.

So here's where I am confused. I will charge them full rates for this morning, and Wednesday,Thursday and friday will be half rates as we agreed. But if I take tomorrow off, do I stil charge them half rates, and then if Is till take Mondaya nd Tuesdya off next weeka s they suggested, do is till charge half rates for then too, or not at all?
I have baffled myself

This is why I always charge and get paid in advance!! not very helpful I know but now they have given you the day off tomorrow chances are they are not expecting to pay full and only half.
Totally up to you but a lesson learnt to send and agree payment in advance and then everyone knows where they stand.
What do you say in the contract, I always do full pay if they took holiday and no pay for mine, everyone does it differently.

feel for you as its all a bit complecated isnt it?? have read your thread 3 times and cant see what you should charge either, bit thick though lol.

personally I do as Daneth4th does, no pay my hols full pay theirs, same for sickness..

as they ofered to pay you half pay for your holiday they seem sensible and nice enough, ring them and chat.. see what they were going to give you and if that seems ok..

going forward though maybe more clarity needed.. its a tricky one ..

You charge at 4 full day cost and 5 at 50% (assuming you don't charge for bank holidays). No matter if the Dad is off tomorrow, that is not your concern. You are available and offered to have their child so they still pay

FWIW i pay nothing for my CM holiday and full charge for ours. Much easier i think. Oh and i pay in advance for the days i have requested (whether or not they are actually used)

It had all been worked out - with all my days off it worked out at 5 days int toal - i.e a week at half rates then 3 weeks at full rates, that's how I initally worked it out. Thne this happened.

What i want to do is this
charge full rate for 6 hours today, then half rates for 4 hours for today. Then half rates as usual for tomorrow (if I don't have them) then just half rates for the 2 days next week.

I think you are being WAAAAY to generous. The parents have decided they want to swap. You are flexible and agree (just so happens it works well for you). then they decide to keep their child at home. You are still available for work and therefore should charge a full day.
You may find they then expect to be able to chop and change hours etc and get money off for early pick ups. Not good for you and v confusing money/charging wise.

I say this as a parent not a CM BTW. I would not expect my CM to lose out because i change my mind. Mine is brilliant and swaps days for me where she can but i don't/won't use her as though she is at my beck and call as i think that is unfair.

Just charge under the original agreement would be my advice

'too' generous
