Looking for Nanny to live in (tips/suggestions)

hi all mummies out there, I am looking to hire a "live in" nanny but am reluctant to use an agency as they have huge finding fees and nanny seems to be a lot more expensive overall. Does anyone have any tips of where I can look or advertise? I've put an add on Gumtree but have no real interest other than non experienced people wanting any job and free board! Need one fairly urgently and now feeling the pressure. Tips, general knowledge welcome :)

I'm not a mummy, am a nanny (currently looking for a live-in position!)

You could put an advert on nannyjob, you do have to pay but I don't think it is much.

www.childcare.co.uk
www.netmums.co.uk

I have found jobs in the local paper, the paper shop (that was mainly babysitting or weekend work) and from The Lady magazine but I think an advert in there would be quite expensive now. Although most of mine jpbs have been through agencies.

Try mumsnet local for your area, I think you can do that for free, but I am sure someone else will be along to put me straight!

There are lots of threads in this topic on how to find your own nanny on here, you just have to go back a bit!

here is a page from mumsnet on looking for a nanny

Good luck.

Hi, I'm currently doing a new nanny search and had ads on gumtree, nannyjob and netmums. Have had no response from netmums at all. 30 responses from gumtree, and 20 or so from nanny job. All the people who replied from nanny job also replied on gumtree too.

You need to be very specific as to your requirements on gumtree.

Maybe you're not offering enough money to be attractive to experienced nannies. One of the things you could is to repost the ad with salary negotiable and ask candidates to state their salary expectations in their replies to you. That way you can see if you're offering too little.

Nannyjob has a very good search CV section, you can search for nannies wanting to live in.

Good luck with the search

We used simply childcare which is an online agency now, you see who's available and then subscribe to get their contact details, and found a dream nanny.

Kiwi,

My old nanny might be looking for work. She had a temp job for a while and I think might be back in Poland now -- just visiting family I think? If you CAT, I will gladly put you in touch. We let her go because we economised down to au pair / childminder combination. But, she is absolutely fab. And, I promise not to charge an agency fee!

If you CAT me, please post here alerting me to it and I'll check the e-mail (don't otherwise check that account very often).

i suggest advertising on nannyjob.co.uk

i think it costs about £20 (so loads less than agencies)

most nannies actively looking for work check there daily

Im looking for a position in London.

Why not post on the mums looking for chilcare thread :)

I found my current position on childcare.co.uk it has a great way of searching for all kinds of childcare. A basic profile is free but its better to upgrade (which costs around £10 for 3 months) as you can get contact details and references for the potentials much quicker.

My job was advertised both on simplychildcare.com and gumtree 2.5 years ago. I applied through simplychildcare though checked all the websites mentioned above.
