Ofsted inspections for a self-employed nanny?

I'm an Ofsted registered self-employed nanny. I have heard that Ofsted do sometimes inspect registered nannies, but wondered how that would work if you're self-employed? Would they inspect me at my home even though I don't work from there?

Be grateful if anyone knows the answer to this!

They inspect you at the address you have provided to them. So I presume you update them with details of your main client - do you?

Have they actually said they are coming to inspect you - as it's not really an issue until then is it?

CR11 says "Childminders and home childcarers must inform Ofsted of
the following:

  • a change to the address of the premises where they are providing childcare"

So it would be that address at which they would inspect you.

No, I haven't updated them since I became self-employed so they'll have my previous employer's address still Blush

They haven't said they're going to inspect me, I'm just curious about what would happen.

I'm not sure how you are going to do it really, as if you are self-employed you could be working for a different family every day of the year in theory.

Your post has reminded me that I need to tell them that my working days have changed - just sent them an e-mail. The latest version of CR11 (which can be found on the CR1 by Hand form seems to want to know the working days).

I phoned them to tell them that od changed jobs...

you would have thought i was speaking another language

they clearly did NOT want to know and found it very odd that i had even thought about telling them.

I'm not even sure what address to give them as a "main client". Somehow it seems like a bit of a data protection issue to give client addresses to a 3rd party anyway?

It would only be the address of a parent who pays using vouchers or tax credits, wouldn't it?
