Hi everyone,

I've applied to become a childminder and have ofsted coming out a week on Monday. What do i need to have in place?

I've done:

A course with my local authority
First aid
Policies and procedures
Risk assessments
Set up a playroom
Requested risk assessments for baby groups

I'm doing basic food hygiene on Saturday and am going through the eyfs whenever i get 5 minutes.

What have i missed and what will they ask me?

Thanks for your help

K

have you childproofed your home ie stairgates/plug covers (if you deem necessary)/drawer closures/chemicals and knives unavailable

is your garden secure, all dangerous equipment locked away

if you have a rotary dryer then either up or down and covered

if you haven't then draw up a list to show Ofsted what you intend to do

draw up a 'wishlist' of toys and resources you would like to develop to enrich the children's experiences with you

any help?

Brilliant, I'll start pulling lists together.

You don't need to childproof anything if you don't want to, just be prepared to justify it. For example I don't have a stairgate as mindee was injuring himself more trying to get past it than by going up the stairs.

Just walk through the house and think about everything that could go wrong ;-)

Great advice thank you. Thought I'd have to have it all in place.

I shall make lots of lists and and learn my eyfs
