When I was looking to employ a nanny I wasn't able to initiate a CRB myself, would have had to get it done through an agency or other third party. I think some of the nanny payroll companies offer it eg nannytax

MilkNoSugarPlease · 06/04/2011 10:36

Ah damn!

She uses nannytax, will ask her to investigate!

Thank.you!

Sorry it's not more straightforward. If MB's not able to help I'm sure nannytax (or a similar outfit if you can find cheaper) would be willing to do it for you in your own right - I don't think it has to come from the employer.

CRB's do not run out however some companies and organisations deem any older than 2 or 3 years as being out of date. Others insist on a brand new one for every job.

In effect they are out of date the day they are issued under the current system

nannynick · 06/04/2011 11:09

A friendly nanny agency will do one for you.

I'm Ofsted registered and Ofsted are not redoing CRBs - so my last one is rather old now.

This ISA situation I think has caused some of the issue, wish they would sort it out and let us apply for ISA and constant CRB updates, so parents can check our current approval status online at anytime.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 06/04/2011 14:14

I second the friendly agency - Kim from Busy Bees is usually happy to without needing to register you etc.

CharlieCoCo · 06/04/2011 19:25

just make sure you go with an agency who doesnt charge. there are a couple who say CBR's are for eg £68 which means they are profitting and they shouldnt. most agencies dont profit and theres no reason too.

nannynick · 06/04/2011 20:05

Why shouldn't the agency charge for their time in processing the application?

The agency may also not be a registered body themselves, so will be using an umbrella organisation who already charge more than the CRB fee itself. So that cost has to be passed on.

CharlieCoCo · 06/04/2011 20:11

well the agencies i used just basically send me an email with the CRB form that i have to fill out and send myself, they dont actually do anything themselves; they actually say this. if they are doing the processing themselves then yes they can charge, but i bet there are agencies who still do this and charge and you dont need to go through an agency who processes it themselves, saves you money, its expensive enough.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/04/2011 20:43

agree use an agency - think i paid £54 last year for mine

Novstar · 08/04/2011 09:42

Kim from busy bees did one for my nanny recently. I paid £45 (I think) and it took 12 weeks.
