As you would have to pay to have it fixed/replaced anyway, I think that - technically - you wouldn't really be able to claim anything on your expenses for it.

I think that you wouldn't be able to claim either but it may be a good idea to contact the IR as they would give you a definate answer,

ThePrinsoner is right it is a capitol cost for your house - as you can't take it with you when you move) - so if you were to claim it as a childminding expense - you may have to pay capitol gains tax when you sell the house - it's not worth it
