I worked ad hoc today for a prospectus client, I could not helping myself by organising and cleaning the baby bag and other things, now I am wondering if the parent will feel that I think they are desorganized & dirty...or will they appreciate my gesture>?

As a cm it's not something i would do. :)

i wouldnt do it as a temp nanny as they may feel im interfering stepping over the mark

but for a long term temp/job i probably would - then again if i was there long term it wouldnt be in a mess :)

Did it have personal items in like perhaps letters, cards, lippy, the mums own bits.
One of my mums has a bag full, but I wouldn't like her to think I had been through every thing.
However if it were just baby bits, then as a parent I would be delighted. I once had a parent who's things were a bit disorganised and I helped out a bit. One of the things I did was wash the childs blanket as it always seemed very a bit dirty!
I think its quite a nice jesture what you did, but don't worry yourself...its only a bag and you were only trying to be nice.

As a parent I'd see it a judgement on my own standards and be deeply ashamed. I felt the same when my MIL cleaned our house while we were away on holidays. Rationally, it was a lovely, helpful gesture but it really played on my guilty conscience. Sorry, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with it.

I would never 'clean' someone elses bag as would worry they'd feel embarrassed but I have often rearranged the bag so things are neat, this is to make things easier for me to find things quicker (when things have been chucked in in a rush). But this would always be just the child's change bag (I have a rule about bags having only items for child in as there could be something dangerous in it - I once found a tablet on my lounge floor and a child could have had it!! Shock)

I think I'd be a bit Hmm if a CM did this to me but as a nanny I've had to spend long rummaging through bags that sometimes I have practically dumped it all on the floor and repacked, which is basically what you did I guess.

So whilst I might understand I don't think it's something I'd appreciate particularly.

It was the babybag and as it was the first time i woulf look after the child I needed to open the bag to see what was in there as I would spenthe whole day with the child and go out and about. I wanted to organise it to make my job easier but than there was lots of crumbles from biscuit or bread, empty snacks packages, dirty tissues and even - very dirty - iten of clothing that I would not need because there was another bag with clean ones. So I just threw the rubish in the bin, put the dirty clothing in a plastic nappy bag, gave the bag a wipe to clean the crumbles and organised the stuff neatly...

I'd find it very helpful. I'm not a CM and I don't use one, bur you'd be welcome to sort out my stuff and clean up the bag anytime Grin

Mum2Luke · 03/04/2011 13:51

I wouldn't be uncomfortable as a Mum as I only used to keep nappy stuff in the nappy bag and not my purse or personal belongings.

As a childminder though I think its polite to ask before you start cleaning out anything except nappy bags with dirty nappy in it! I have had that before!
EWWWWWwwww!!!
