Ages ago, you were all saying how fab your Pogo printers were; are they still going strong?

& how many pictures do you print out a week?

Is it still as good?

What is the cheapest you can get the paper for?

not a CM Smile

but I do have a pogo.

have had it for about 18 months now. still going strong.

I don't use it daily (or even weekly) - prob use it about every month or so, but hten concentrated use - ie would print out 20+ pictures at a go.

I buy paper form amazon - bundles of eg 3x70 sheets pack. not usre what the cost is (sorry), as it is just an essential for me, so pay it, iyswim?

KatyMac · 31/03/2011 18:27

You see I reckon I print 30 (ish) a week; would it cope with that level of use?

BradfordMum · 31/03/2011 18:32

My printer is refusing to recognise my Sd card from my camera.

Just as I was wanting to print out photos for cards for Sunday.

Aaaarrggh

silverfrog · 31/03/2011 18:33

I don't see why not (but maybe other posters will come along and say differently)

it owuld get expensive though, I reckon, at that rate.

is there a reason you need it to be so portable, and immediately sticky?

otherwise I'd just go for good old pritt stick and printing on plain printer paper.

sillymillysmummy · 31/03/2011 18:35

I print around 30 a month, and it works fine, I find it soooo convenient as I print them before my working day is finished so all of my diaries and obs are done pre children leaving, i wouldnt be without it. They are dirt cheap now at around £25 and paper currently on amazon at £9 for 70, so about 13p per pic. I use them for crafts too. Only thing that doesnt work 9and never has) is the battery so I have to have it plugged in when using, but i dont mind that.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 31/03/2011 18:35

yes I print about 15 a week, had mine over a year, love it (cept it doesn't connect to the PC cos I haven't got a bluetoof dongle but that's not the point of it)

I get papers from Amazon, look for deals, free delivery etc

My Inspector loved mine last year, she'd not heard of them and was vair impressed at ease of use - even the children can use them, she observed a child printing out a pic

brilliant piece of kit

Numberfour · 31/03/2011 19:00

I don't know how to use mine!!!!
got a new blackberry and am very technologically challenged!!!! and too busy to pore over the instructions: I tried but could not get it to work.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 31/03/2011 19:24

No4 I have a Nokia C3 (blackberry lookie-likie) - once you have taken the pic then go to options, select bluetooth (make sure pogo is ON) and hopefully it should do it

KatyMac · 31/03/2011 20:19

Hmm - no need for it to be portable at all

But I spend a fortune on ink atm & I cannot sustain it

OP posts:
silverfrog · 31/03/2011 20:23

ah, i see.

have you (could you) work out likely cost per print for your current method? looks liek you are trying to beat 13p per pic (according to another poster).

do you defintiely need the immediacy? because online prinitng services are def cheaper than that - especially if you tout around the companies, go for offers etc. but obv take s acouple of days.

KatyMac · 31/03/2011 20:36

No - I really do need it that day

But currently I print on plain paper

it costs a fortune - I easily spend £600 a year, probably more

OP posts:
silverfrog · 31/03/2011 20:52

thought you would need same day, but thought I'd mention..

jeez, £600 is a LOT.

roughly how many pictures do you reckon you print? oh hang on - 30ish a week you say?

that would be £4ish per week in paper, if you can get it at the rate quoted earlier.

so, just over £200 per year.

Big saving, if my maths is right (very possibly not Grin)

KatyMac · 31/03/2011 20:54

No - because I print loads of other stuff too

But it would reduce my bill by that much, on photos

Sigh

I think I may have to go laser

OP posts:
Numberfour · 31/03/2011 20:55

BALD.............. I don't think I switched the Pogo on when I tried..........Blush. cannot believe that I am actually admitting to this!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 31/03/2011 21:00

oh bless you No4!

I did the same and spent time frothing at the mouth before I realised, hence my comment about pogo being ON Grin

anyway we live and learn, eh ? Grin

silverfrog · 31/03/2011 21:28

katy, have been thinking a bit more.

what kind of printer do you have?

£600/year on ink owuld in my house would mean I was changing my print cartridges (full set - 4 x separate colours, plus black) every fortnight. I usd to do a fair bit of photo printing pre-pogo, and never came anywhere near this level of ink use. (we also print out a fair bit of other stuff)

are your ink cartridges particularly expensive?

are there any ways you could cut down on what you print?

just that my main printer is prob about 18 months old, was top of the range photo printer job, so not cheap to replace cartridges, and I cannot imagine spending what you do.

KatyMac · 31/03/2011 21:34

The pogo would just be for the folders to speed up turnover & help inspire staff

It's very expensive being in business; I have about 23 children atm

OP posts:
KatyMac · 31/03/2011 21:35

In addition to the folder photos I probably print about 40/50 photos for diaries aweek

OP posts:
silverfrog · 31/03/2011 21:41

mmm.

hate to say it, but the reviews ofr that printer don't come out brilliantly, particularly wrt cost of ink/amount of ink it goes thorugh.

would chanigng printer be an option? (obviously short term expense, but if it slashed your ink costs?)

KatyMac · 31/03/2011 21:53

Well yes - it's 2 yrs old now (I think)

But choosing is a bit of a bugger; I am so crap at it

I need photocopier & printer, photos & text

NannyNick suggested getting a mono laser & having my letterheads pre-printed; but I'm not sure

I can get 100 pogo papers for £15ish here or 70 for £9ish

OP posts:
silverfrog · 31/03/2011 21:57

oh, woudn't know what to suggest.

I tend ot hate HP on principle, as had a duff printer years back which woudln't reload cartridges etc.

I always buy Epsom, as I like their interface/software.

but then I'm not using it for heavy business use...

nannynick · 31/03/2011 21:57

Colour laser and printing 4 to 8 photos per page would be cheaper I would expect.
However it takes time to collate the pictures and print them.
What I think you want is near instant pictures, which you can then put in the child's folder and then stick onto particular paperwork as time allows.
Invoices, Menus, that kind of thing can be black ink on white or coloured paper. Signs can be black ink on coloured paper and could be outline font so children/staff could colour it by hand.

babybaabaa · 31/03/2011 22:50

Instead of printing out 40/50 photos for diaries could you email them to parents instead?

I swapped to a daily email system which saves loads in printer ink and faff, and makes it easier for parents to share photos with extended family.

I just save a selection of the best photos on a stick to display on a digiframe for Ofsted.

ChildrenAtHeart · 01/04/2011 16:39

I have the Pogo & recently upgraded to the Pogo2 which is camera & printer combined. The print quality isn't brilliant & i know its a higher cost per print than using my main printer but for convenience & saving time its a godsend & I wouldn't want to be without. To keep cost down rather than print every picture I only use it to print pictures for proper observations (ie things that illustrate new development/achievement) to go in the mindie Learning Journals, but this means I can keep up to date with the LJ's much more easily, on a daily basis. Then once a month I upload everything to the pc, file by child and using windows picture gallery block print 9 pictures to a page every thing for the past month. i don't cut out or anything, just file the pictures at the back of the LJ as a gallery for parents & for Ofsted to see what we do. Its working well & saving me hours!
On a sad note the Pogo original has stopped talking to my phone :o(
