Poor mum is due back to work and has no family locally. I only have my own children around but not sure if we have had it or not (had a few spots once that may have been it!) What would you do? TIA for replies.

It would depend on the ages of the children involved & how poorly the lo is with it, but if they are not massively unwell, you have no-one who is immuno-suppressed or pregnant who you would come into contact with then I would probably do it. Do you have other mindies who might be affected? What would happen if your chn got it - if you had to then close it wouldn't have done the parent any favours in the long run. Things to think about when deciding.

Thanks, yes thats my thoughts - what if mine get it and are horribly poorly? At least no other mindees to worry about tho.

Hmm. Fingers crossed they are no longer infectious when they start I guess.

If your children are young & you have no other mindies I'd probably go for it so long as the mum understands that if your chn get it & are too ill for you to have her child thats her hard luck. Its better to get CP as a child if poss, as tend to be less ill.

When did the first spots appear and when is she due back as its only 5 days from when the first spots appear when they should be excluded. I would be careful excepting as it may set an example for the future. Will you except next time the child is poorly.

I have an exemption clause in my policies for CP lol so they can't try it on with anything else

I've never excluded for CP because children are infectious for a few days before the spots appear, so anyone they have been in contact with could already be infected. They continue to be infectious until the last spot has scabbed over - but they look much worse for ages after that!

I know you have to be careful if you are pregnant - a friend of mine caught them when she was 6mths, and the baby was born with CP scars - he'd had it in the womb without anyone knowing.

Check the HPA website for all uptodate guidelines - some of the recent changes shocked the hell out of me!
