I charge by the hour, was wondering how other minders worked their fees.

By the hour for full timers or sessional fees for part time.

ssd · 27/10/2005 18:33

How do you work out the sessional fees for the part timers jelly?

I make them book in for sessions from 8-1230 or 1-530 and charge £15 including snacks. parents like it and i know that i am going to get a bit of money and have them enough to make a difference to them rather than just having them for a couple of hours.

sickandtired · 27/10/2005 18:54

i'm a p/t person, its still by the hour though, as sometimes I do o/t. My cm gives me a reduced rate (£1) off as she has both children. By the way - she is fantastic! They love her
I pay for nappies and wipes and when they were little I paid for formular.
She pays for all the todler groups and taxi's etc that she takes them to (she doesn't drive)

sickandtired · 27/10/2005 18:55

where are you jelly? I pay well over that!

jellyjelly · 27/10/2005 18:57

I am in Reading. Where are you?

sickandtired · 27/10/2005 19:06

camberley - so not that far, and I do those hours, but there are two of them my kids I mean, what would you charge for siblings?

jellyjelly · 27/10/2005 19:09

I would offer a discount if i had both children, havent had it yet so maybe about a pound or so, it would depend on how many hours i had the children, meals etc.

Out of interest what are you charged per hour for them both if you dont mind me asking?

sickandtired · 27/10/2005 19:11

I think (would have to check the contract) that its £6.90

jellyjelly · 27/10/2005 19:14

It's good to know, thankyou for sharing.

FeelingOld · 27/10/2005 20:19

I charge by the hour too. All of my mindees are part-time but I do state in my portfolio that I do have a reduced daily charge for children coming 3 full days per week or more (this does apply to my after schoolers during the school holidays cos if I didn't offer the reduced rate they would go to local play schemes). I also have a reduced rate for siblings.

katymac · 27/10/2005 20:23

I don't do reduced rates for siblings

I charge less for after school (but I'm funded by surestart to run an afterschool club) when I did it as a minder I charged a minimum of 2 hrs

For under 5's I ask that they stay at least 4 hrs (otherwise it's not really worth it)

ThePrisoner · 27/10/2005 20:56

I charge by the hour and will take on children for whatever number of hours/days a parent wants, so long as I have space. I charge the same rate for before/afterschool children. I don't do a reduction for siblings, but I don't charge for any groups or activities that we attend - I pay out around £12/week per child (not including petrol, parking etc.)

badgerhead · 27/10/2005 21:10

I charge by the hour, include all outings, food, diesel costs etc. I don't give a reduction for siblings (& I have 2 pairs), they still take up your spaces. With one of my children I work out the hours required over a year, School age & have b/a school & all day in holidays, divide total by 12 & charge a fixed monthly rate. For his sister it is weekly as she is only 16 months & that is how the mum wants to pay me, one weekly, one monthly, suits me fine.Saying that today, we have a town centre festival on at the end of this week including a fair, the older one was given some extra money for the fair rides as I advise the parents I will pay for 2 rides each & if they want more then they need extra money. We also had a trip to a soft play centre at the beginning of the week which I paid for completely for 6 children.

kcemum · 27/10/2005 21:17

I charge for the hour, give a small discount for a full day (although this is stopping in the new year). At the moment I provide the food, snacks, drinks etc, but as my hourly charges are low for around here (we have a glut of minders)I ask parents to pay any fees for outings and visits etc. They are all more than happy to pay this.

fireflyfairy2 · 27/10/2005 21:24

Can I just say here... how fantastic my c/minder is??

You all do a great job... Mine is an absolute ANGEL!! Today I had an appointment, Thursday is my day off and she usually doesn't have my kids.. but she had them today..when I came home she made me coffee and home made bread... and THEN sent me home a saucepan full of soup!!!!!

I never had a childminder before.. but I swear... this woman is worth her weight in PLAITNUM!!

ThePrisoner · 27/10/2005 21:54

.. and it wasn't me ...

honeycombe · 02/11/2005 20:05

I charge by the hour as I work just part-time and charge only 50% hourly rate for a sibling if I were to work outside contracted hours then I would charge more

ayla99 · 03/11/2005 07:37

I have an hourly rate, with a cheaper rate for those wanting more than 6 hours a day and cheaper again for a full time place (although I've never had a full timer!).

I charge a fixed session rate for before or after school because there is no way to fill in the unused time.

I also offer session rates for under fives which means its cheaper if they have either the morning or the afternoon which then makes it possible to offer the unused part of the day to another child.
