Thankyou for reading....

Trying to calculate annual leave I'm allowed which according to the government website tells me to simply multiply the number of days worked per week by 5.6.

In my case this equates to 16.8. How do we translate THAT into basic English for a contract of employment please? What on earth is .8? My hours are all over the place from one week to the next.

Maybe I'm being thick but as it's a Friday, can I get away with it??

Calculate in hours
Use the BusinessLink Holiday calculator - can't link as on mobile, so google it.
Your hours will need to be the same each week. If that isn't the case then calculate how many hours you would do over an entire year.

For variable hours it may be best to go with "the nanny shall accrue paid holiday at the rate of 12.07% of hours worked". You then need to keep track of the amount of holiday that has been accrued, and the amount that has been taken and paid.

To answer your question, 0.8 of a day is usually rounded up to a whole day. But 17 days holiday is likely to work out unfair for someone if some of those days are normally 2 hours and some 12.
