Any naughty CMs out there who are over their registered numbers?

How do you get around this? Is it worth it? OFSTED are so inflexible when it comes to this! Angry

PrincessConsuelaBananaHamok · 24/03/2011 22:38

no it's not worth it

you will invalidate your insurance for a start

and breach the terms of your registration

and possibly compromise the care the children receive if you try to spread self too thinly

tell us what your overlap is, is it for long, have you explained to Ofsted how you will meet the needs of all the children etc etc

are you relatively new? new CMs are often refused variations

MrsPW · 24/03/2011 22:39

I'm in N.Ireland and we don't have variations as far as I am aware so I'm probably slightly less sympathetic when it comes to this subject, sorry!
I just don't take on children that I can't accomodate, simple as that.

MrsPW · 24/03/2011 22:40

and what princess said too ^^

BooyHoo · 24/03/2011 22:42

why would you do that? surely you couldn't be providing adequate care for all teh chidlren if you are over your numbers?

greed is disgusting.

Danthe4th · 24/03/2011 23:18

Ofsted are not inflexible if you can show you can provide adequate care, have you applied for a variation?

dobby2001 · 25/03/2011 00:31

Hungry hippy is this for real? Why on earth ask this question?
For what its worth, I have had several variation requests over the years to accomodate various family arrnagements and every time OFSTED have approved them and often very promptly. I have even had two emergency variations approved over the telephone in a couple of hours!

So no,i would never dream of going over my numbers without approval as in this situation I dont happen to think OFSTED are inflexible if you give them all the proper information as to reasons why it is required and what plans you have in place to meet the increased needs to the children.

HSMM · 25/03/2011 06:52

No haven't needed to. Ofsted have given me variations when I have needed them. I just tell parents I am full.

nannyl · 25/03/2011 09:01

I cant imagine CMs would even post on here "oh yes, i sometimes go over my numbers" even if they did.
Most wont... its just not worth it.

I assume CMs have to keep a register or attendance, how do you explain to ofstead inspector why you have more children than you are allowed?

looneytune · 25/03/2011 09:11

No way would I risk this, don't understand why people would/do? I find Ofsted fine with variations as long as you can prove how you'll cope/meet needs etc? They've given me 4 under 5s many times, even when it meant ages 10 wk, 8 months, 17 months & 18 months! If they've said no then there is a reason. I will have 7 children after school every day from next week, some have been desperate to do this sooner but unless my assistant could help, I refused as it's not worth the risk. Ds turns 8 on Monday hence why I CAN have 7 from next week.

Are you already working over your numbers?

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 25/03/2011 09:14

You don't....for all the reasons stated.

And even if anyone did admitting it would be if not the height of stupidity then pretty darn close.

PositiveOutlook · 25/03/2011 10:53

What a stupid question!

pollywollyhadadollycalledmolly · 25/03/2011 11:25

No i dont do this. Never have and never ever will!

I like being a cm and wouldnt want to lose my job and possibly end up in alot of trouble.

turnitup · 25/03/2011 11:49

No, have never done it and never would.

IME Ofsted are very flexible to variations

Pancakeflipper · 25/03/2011 11:51

Are you a journo sniffing around to create a negative CM little yarn or are you breaking rules and regs?

pollywollyhadadollycalledmolly · 25/03/2011 11:53

My thoughts exactly pancake!

Kingzog · 25/03/2011 12:12

I know a few OFSTED registered old-school childminders in my area who do it. Doesn't make it right though.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/03/2011 12:26

silly question, and even if a cm on here did,she would hardly admit it

MissusF · 25/03/2011 12:43

Why would anybody do this (saying that I know some CM's I wouldn't leave a dog with that do)

I have 4 under 5's on a variation, I have had a variation more than not. Never had any trouble getting one, as long as it falls within the criteria i.e siblings, continuation, twins.

If you are asking them for 4 just four new business, then you are just being greedy.
