Nanny going on mat leave

Crumblemum · 17/03/2011 11:05

Think I've got all the payment sorted as have been paying tax so will be covered for her stat leave. Has anyone been here and done that though - is there anything else I should be worrying about?

Also when she comes back, she'll bring her baby - so she'll have my 2 boys + hers. I was thinking of suggesting I pay 1/3 less - does that sound right?

Thanks all x

1/3 less is probably a bit too much! This isn't a nanny share because you are still the parent in control. Perhaps a reduction of about 10%?

I agree 1/3 less is a bit steep

10 - 20% less tops. There are many nannies who dont get their pay reduced at all, though I see that from a parents point of view, its not quite the same when nannies DC is being cared for too.

Oooh, thanks, that's good to hear - she's been really brilliant, so would like to keep her. Good point it's not a nanny share!

I think a 1/4 to a 1/3 less is about right and of course it is a nanny share now. Your nanny will be spending less time with your children and you are the employer.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/03/2011 13:10

10/20% less is normal

25/33% less is too much and shes likely to leave

Crumblemum · 17/03/2011 13:52

I realise she'll be spending less time just on our kids, but also conscious it will always be at our house, on our terms, etc, v. different to a nanny share I did a couple of years ago.

But all the advice is really helpful, thanks very much. (Think I'll start discussions at around 20%)
