Hi

Does it cost double if you were to have a Childminder for twins?

OP posts:

Normally yes

They both take a space; so the childminder need to maximise her income

A childminder cares for your children in her own home and yes would charge for 2 spaces. Depending on where you are this will cost from £2.50-£6.50 an hr per space

however a nanny comes to your home and you employ them and they are paid per family and you set the wage depending on where you are and nannies experience and qualifications this can cost from £6-£12 gross an hr (for your family).

£2-£6.50? I want to move to the east midlands...I pay £15 for a 50min school run and the hourly rate for holidays etc is £7.50

poopnscoop · 17/03/2011 10:52

It depends. Some CM's offer sibling discounts, other CMs don't.

Best you ask around :)

apotomak · 17/03/2011 11:43

£15 for a school run is normal. You don't pay £15 per hour as it probably is a school run price and I would assume it's anything up to 3 hours of care ... it's just not worthwhile getting the car out and the little ones plus feeding the schoolies after for any less than £10.

Jojay · 17/03/2011 11:48

My CM gave a 10% discount for the second child when she had my boys - not twins but close in age.

I know the nurseries round here do that too.

RosieGirl · 17/03/2011 12:07

I used to give a discount for siblings, but have stopped as at one time I had a full family of 3 children and was being paid less than if the children came from individual families, for just as much work (esp as the siblings tended to be harder work). Also the worry if the family quit you can loose a lot of business at once.

thebody · 17/03/2011 12:41

i charge same rate as take up 2 spaces.. no sibling discount as couldnt afford to be so generous.

littleducks · 18/03/2011 20:16

Feeding? She doesnt get fed, she gets dropped off, gets in CMs car and then CM drops her off for £15...its a shame i used to pay £2 for breakfast club where she did get fed Sad

Its £7.50 hourly rate

Tanith · 18/03/2011 21:04

Do you mean that the CM picks up your child from school and brings her straight home for you, littleducks?

Who looks after your child, then? Why is it necessary for a childminder to do this and not the local taxi firm? How far away is the school?

If you're taking up an after school place, then you should expect to be charged for it.

littleducks · 18/03/2011 22:16

No I drop her off, she gets in CMer's car and CM takes her to school in the morning(via another school or two and a nursery dependant on which other mindees she has that morning)

which is why i said the breakfast club was cheaper Wink

My dd is 4, so i cant really give her to a taxi driver!

Tanith · 18/03/2011 22:37

Round here, £15 for a before school or an afternoon school only place is reasonable. You'd be asked to pay more for full wrap around care.

If the childminder is just taking your child to school, with no element of childcare, then that's what taxis will do: a lot of them are CRB checked especially for school runs.

littleducks · 18/03/2011 22:39

Whats full wrap around care?

CrispyTheCrisp · 18/03/2011 22:39

We get a sibling discount, but i'm not sure how much it is.

pollywollyhadadollycalledmolly · 20/03/2011 22:03

Normally two children = twice the price.

Some cms do offer a sibling discount. Personally i don't. As it is the same amount of work, same paper work, same amount of food, same amount of ££ spent on outings etc as if the children where from two seperate families.
