Would you close if you had no heating or hot water?

Am cm.

Also boiler being fitted would take whole day with no gas either, so definitely close on that day? What about the days until then?

I would be able to manage, because it's fairly warm at the moment (and we could always go out).

Depends on your setting.

Officially, you are supposed to close if the temp is below a certain point (I think 16'C), but I think no hot water would be fine, as you can boil a kettle and mix with cold to wash hands and faces, etc.

Ok thanks that's really helpful.

Do you have any other ways of heating a room if it gets cold? For example a log/coal fire?

BooyFuckingHoo · 10/03/2011 17:42

can you borrow a plug in heater or do you have a coal fire?

chabbychic · 10/03/2011 18:52

Yep got a plug-in heater. What about when it's getting replaced?

I would spend the morning at my local children centre and thenask a childminder friend if she fancied some company for lunch and the afternoon or have you a soft play centre you could invite some friends along to. I wouldn't close for the day.

I have been in this situation - new boiler going in and no heating or hot water plus building works ! You will be fine - don't worry. It is surprising how well portable heaters work. Tesco sell a really cheap fan heater which heats well and quickly. And its surprising how many people have a spare if you mention it. 4 heaters kept entire house warm, but the main thing is to keep room minding in warm, but then it has been really mild.
Spend half the day out the house Grin
Good luck x

No heating at this time of year doesn't sound like a big deal, but no running hot water with young children does.

I didn't close when this happened to me although I made sure parents were happy. Mine was during snow too! I used portable heater and went out. No hot water isn't such an issue for me as none of my mindees will wash their hands with hot water anyway, always go for the cold tap. Anyway, we have the spray for hands to kill germs. No other reason I need hot water, the heating was definitely more of a problem but was solved by closing the playroom for a few days and using portable heater.

I didn't close when my kitchen was being ripped out, no water, had to live off microwave 'ping' meals cos the electric oven had not been delivered. Parents sent their own meals and I made a reduction accordingly - easy!

We coped very well, we went to tots to play while the work was being done and it only took 2 weeks to rip it all out, install new one and decorate! My dh's friend is a decorator, his brother in law is a joiner and my hubby is a gas-safe registered manager at his work.
