School picks ups, who does them?

My 6 year old dts are going to start a different school from their 8 year old brother at the end of this month.
I need childcare after school tue and thursday nights. They are currently in a after school club who say that if I can get them there they can stay. There is no room in their new school's after school club.
I have rung around all the childminders in the area that I know of asking if any of them have space to either a/ look after them on those days, or b/ to do a pick up for me. Most of them although they say on their websites that they will consider pick ups, don't want to.None of them have vacancies anyway.
I'm thinking of trying to find someone else to do this, obviously someone who is police checked and has a clean drivers licence. What other criteria should I set? Is it okay to pay someone other than a childminder to do a pick up, I can't deny I'm not sure about it. Any ideas?

I would say if they are taking them home or to the after school club its babysitting or a very part time nanny - so no problem - except getting someone to do it of course
if they were taking them to their home a no go if they wern't a registed childminder

crw1234 - you are right it wouldn't entail taking them home, just from A to B probably a 5 minute car journey, 10 minute walk. As you say, it is finding some one that is the difficult bit

If you can't find a childminder then maybe you should think about a nanny with their own baby/child - but you have to be willing to have a younger child in your house, which some parents can be fussy about.

How about finding care for your 8 year old. Then you collect the dts then go on to pick up older child.
An 8yr old may be easier for a childminder to accomodate.

What about one of the other mums? There might ber a mum happy for a small payment to pick up and walk ten minutes before going home herself

Thanks for your replies, I have now found a childminder who can do the pick up unti Sept at least. Ds1 really doesnt want to go to more after school club as he doesn't like it too much. So relieved it seems to be sorted
