Looneytune - 8 seater cars?

Hi,

I noticed on another thread that you said you have purchased an 8 seater mpv. I am looking for one at the mo. - was thinking about Peugeot 507(?)-don't know if that's the right model but the one that has 8 seats lol! Wondered if you would mind saying which one you have bought - it's nice to have other people's opinions on cars - want one that's reliable but I guess that is everyone's specification really.

Thanks

I m not looneytune - obviously - but I have the equivalent car to the Peugeot 807 with 8 seats. Fab car but dont get an automatic one notorious for gear box faults which cost a fortune. I find it excellent and my car has 8 people in it most days.

Oh, a shout just for me Grin

Yes, got mine on Wednesday. I need a proper play with it tbh as dh arrived with it (I hadn't seen it, driven etc. as I had no time to look) 15 mins before I need to go on the final school run of the day so I just had time to get all seats in it and learn to drive it on the way to school LOL. I've been given the day of my kids tomorrow so I can play with my new car and start my first bit of coursework so I'll be able to come back to this thread later on Saturday/Sunday. For now I can tell you I have the Citroen C8 in a manual diesel (heard bad things about autos plus diesel recommended in reviews and is more economical). This is the same as the Peugeot 807. I love the gadgets and stuff but a lot is due to me going from a 14 year old car to a 6 year old so obviously the novelty of a newer car is good LOL. There are a couple of bits I'm not happy with but I just need to play around and see what I can do to make it work for me better. I.e. getting in the back row.......my old VW Sharan lifted the whole seat forward and the person stepped in. This one folds the seat in half and then slides forward out of the way which is absolutely fine until you have a booster seat sat on it. I'm currently having to lift the high back booster out of the car each time to let children in the back. Another thing is the size of the seats in the back row. I knew it was a bench seat and that the seats would be slightly smaller but I thought I'd be able to get 3 booster seats in the back but I can't with the ones I have. I've had a quick look and think one of them fits ok so if I just bought 2 more that are narrower like that one, I might be ok (don't do what I did and not investigate all this - my problem was time as had people wanting the space from when my ds1 turns 8 in 3 weeks!). I'm also not as happy with the leg room but again, I think I have an idea for solving that. They are the only things I'm not as happy about but after a play around with car seats etc, it may all be solved :) I'm happy with the boot space even when the bench seat is furthest back (all seats slide forward/back according to your needs. The kids love the sliding doors, built in sunscreens etc!

I really wanted to get a Toyota Estima or Previa as they seem more spacey but I was having big trouble finding one in a manual and in diesel without being a very old version. Again time was against me. You need to talk to HSMM about that car as she has one and can tell you more about it :)

Must go now but will come back once I've played around and let you know my final thoughts Wink

I had a Toyota Previa and now a Toyota Estima. Both 8 seat automatic (lazy driver). Both great. Loads of room inside and plenty of boot space. Previa seat by the door folds in half, so as Looney says, a pain if you need a car seat there. In my Estima, the centre bench seat turns around, so all the children can face each other and I can still fit a seat by the door. You have to make sure your child seats are suitable for this configuration. I have just shelled out for a MultiMac car seat for the centre bench, which will make it a 9 seater, because I work with my DH and we are always ending up taking 2 cars everywhere. I have cleared this with the insurance company.

Oh you went for the bench in the end, must have a nose at that as I really like the idea :)

Hi, thanks for the replies. I could really do with an 8 seater by mid-May as that is when MOT is due on my Zafira and I think I will have to pay lots of money to get it through. It is also becoming a bit unreliable with faults that the garage can't find an answer to - so I think it is time for a change. I really do need something bigger than the Zafira as well - much as I like it - it is a pain trying to get all car seats and children in - and my own are getting too big for the rear seats.

Great to have opinions on the different cars - there just don't seem to be many 8 seaters out there - I'd like to get one that's not too old and not too much money - some hope hey!

Bump as I'm a cm and my car has died...........................I have until SUNDAY TO GET A NEW ONE........

tigersmum · 14/06/2012 21:10

I have the 8 seat 807 and am trading it in for a 9 seat VW Transporter Shuttle. It arrives at the weekend, am getting all giddy. I have outgrown the 807 so hoping the VW will be a lot roomier.

I had a mazda bongo. Best car I ever had as a cm. In fact no longer a cm but we have just bought another one as we have two dogs and a caravan.
I could get three seat accoss
Middle and back seats and a double and single buggy in boot.

Xroads · 15/06/2012 22:00

Thanks Shoshe, How are you doing? I can't believe you no longer cm, how many years were you doing it for? (this is lmg btw)

We are going car shopping tomorrow and due to price, location etc its between peugeot 806 (known minor issues)
or peugeot 807 (the nicest but most ££££)
or toyota lucida (cheapest option)
or Citroen synergie (that I don't have a good feeling about tbh)
