Dear all, may I ask a question.
DS is about 3 and he has been with a childminder for 2 years and has been in nearby pre-school for 3 monthes (2X2.5 hours/per week). I have been paying the 2X2.5 hours to both childminder and pre-school.
Thankfully, DS should be able to get the funded hours from the third birthday.
But can you tell me if I still have to pay childminder for the hours he in pre-school?

Well I did not urgue for the current double-pay, about £20 per-week, because £20 is an OK amount, but surely £100+ is not a small one......

Thanks in advance for any reply.

well i would say it depends on if you want CM to be avaliable for that time.

IF CM is dropping him off and collecting him, then i would say you DO need to pay CM.

If CM only collects child, and you NEVER want her to have him during the holidays when pre-school is closed, then maybe you can negotiate.

BUT its not like CM can have another child for that 2.5 hour space, so bear in mind that it makes buisness sense for her to charge you, because she cant offer the space to someone else.
Bear in mind if you are only paying her for some hours during the day she may give you notice when she finds someone who will use and pay for all the hours.

it is quite normal to still have to pay your childcarer while your child is in pre-school. Your child will need the space before/after pre-school, in holidays, when the pre-school is closed for training etc. The childminder will be very unlikely to be able to fill the specific hours that she odes not have your child and is unlikely to be happy about being at the loss of that money. I don't know why you think you will be double-paying. Surely, the pre-school funding will cover most of his pre-school hours when he turns 3 so you will continue to pay the childminder as normal.

If he's ill at pre-school, would you be able to collect him or would you need the CM to be available?

Also you won't be 'double paying'. You will only be paying the CM.

That was supposed to say would you be able to collect him if he was ill....

hocuspontas · 25/02/2011 15:49

Oh I did say that....

Forget it. I'm going... Confused
