....and gone on to have a long a happy placement?

Am feeling dejected after new 14mo cried the whole hour his mum was gone. Any uplifting stories would be lovely!

I had a 6 month old who cried most days for 6 months, didnt matter what I did.

One day she fell asleep in my arms in the swimming pool.

She never cried again, She is now 3 Grin and the most wondrful little girl.

Oh I have stories, one drove me so mad that everyone on here was telling me to give notice. They started with me at 8 weeks old and were fine but it started when they were a bit older (that age for anxiety phase). I didn't give notice and this mindee is now 4 and a lovely child who generally is one of my easier mindees. I'm very pleased I stuck with it now but at the time it WAS very hard.

I know it's hard when a new mindee starts like this but I wouldn't worry too much. They are still at a difficult age (my easiest to settle have been my 2 mindees who started at 8 weeks and the 3rd who started at 5 weeks - they don't feel so upset about leaving mummy at that age!) and as it was their first time and only an hour, I wouldn't worry about it being a long term problem. Give it time and I'm sure it'll be ok and if not, I think you'll know. And in the meantime, feel free to come on here and vent/get advice etc.

Best of luck :)

Aw thanks for that, made me feel much better. I think what made it worse was that when mum left she sneaked out without saying goodbye - I didn't realise til it was too late, then the look on his little face when he realised his mum had disappeared...poor little chap.

I am to blame for that really, i did advise her the day before to leave 'quickly' but not secretly! I think she got the wrong idea...

I had one who started the summer before last and cried solidly for the first two half days and first two full days. I was despairing but he started to come round after that and settled in fine soon after.

He's just left me as his mum is about to have her second child and I will miss him dreadfully. He's been a lovely child to care for and his mum was in tears in my hallway on his last day.

I've had "screamers" who turned out fine, too. One refused to get out of her pushchair for 2 weeks so I had to wheel here everywhere all over house and garden!

Another was violently sick all over me on her 2nd introduction session. Off for a week with a tummy bug (which I caught!) and then proceeded to cry her way through the next 5 weeks. Mum was at her wits end! I still see them at school and she often runs over for a quick hug.

Am relieved it's not just me!

Got first proper day (with this mindee) tues, we have decided just to do a half day because of today. I will let you know how it goes!

Am planning to do a proper 'bye bye' too so it's not so upsetting hopefully.

I found CBeebies on iPlayer was a great help.

Good luck!
