I would think that they would make an appointment - it's not cost-effective to call on spec unless there is an urgent query (because most CMs are out and about in the community a lot if the time and the Inspector's time is valuable from a taxpayer's POV)

Perhaps they need to see the space available to calc if there is enough space? and to see resources available (car seats/highchairs/cots/triple buggy)

??

I've had them visit re a variation. I had two hours notice (though I could have said unavailable it would have been shooting myself in foot as needed it ASAP). It was a face to face interview about how id cope, and she never left my lounge. But everyones situation is different.

That's odd to turn up, I only had that on the 2 occasions I had serious complaints made against me (all unfounded - pretty sure we know who it is but that's another story). I only once had a visit about a variation and that's because I'd asked for loads and they were getting fed up so wanted to visit. I politely reminded them that this was their procedure to ask each time and that I'm not going to say to a parent 'no I won't ask Ofsted or they'll get fed up' LOL. Anyway, they were really lovely and basically wanted me to ask for everything I was likely to need to help all of us. I got what I want and they were satisfied so all happy. I do, however, think turning up is very strange, especially twice (my first complaint they turned up when I was out and then phoned me to book a meeting for a couple of days later!)

It might just be because she's new. They may also be checking that she is not already overminding before receiving the variation? I have had several variations and no visits.

thats what i thought strange just turning up ,she has asked for a variation for a family with 4 kids for holidays only she can have 3 off them the other is 7 and can no longer be watched ny grandma she already looks after the 17 month old sibling so its continuation off care . then there is an over lap on a wed pm ,thus pm, and fri pm ,with two 3yr olds so needs a variation there she has also asked to work with an assistant on these 3 days so i cant see a problem .she has 2 dd 2.5yrs and 1yrs ,and has all the equipment she needs

loony do u reckon then because she is new or because someone has put a complaint against her ofsted said it was just to do with the variation surly they would off told her when rang and it cant be that seriouse if the appointment is 2 weeks away
