I thought you had to be registered? I am clearly wrong?

How many do you care for? How is it going?

thought you still had to be registered .

But when child at the end of 5th birthday didnt have to do all the EYFS stuff.

You don't have to be registered. 0-5(ish) is EYFS and compulsory registration on the early years register, 5(ish)-8yo is compulsory registration on the first part of the childcare register and 8yo or older, nannying and whatever else you can think of is the voluntary second part of the childcare register - ie just for tax credits purposes.
Explained further here.

Most childminders are just registered across all three to make life easier since under 8yos is the majority of the work available - sorry OP, no useful contribution from me!

A childminder cares for children who have had their 8th birthday wouldn't need to be registered. Many are though as then parents can use tax credits / childcare vouchers.

Ofsted: Registration Not Required factsheet

Those who are registered, I think register under the same thing as I do as a nanny... the Voluntary part of the Childcare Register.
