I am currently working in a job i don't like, and my friend is currently having to use two different types of childcare as she is a midwife.

She has offered to pay me to have her dd on a before/after school basis. It would be ideal for her as we are within spitting distance of each other, and our kids all know each other and get on.

I know i'd have to declare the money, but haven't thought that far ahead yet as I am confused about wether i'd need to be registered or not.

In England: No you don't, as long as the child has had their 8th birthday.

What country are you in?

Would the parents need you to be registered for tax credits or childcare voucher purposes?

Ofsted Factsheet: Registration Not Required

Thank you Nick.

The parents wouldn't need me to be registered for tax credits or vouchers no.

Oh, I am in England Smile

I am now really confused as to how this would work if i'm not registered though.

Could i still be a self employed childminder even though i'd not be registered. I would need to be claiming CTC and WTC for myself see.

Can't see why not.
Think you could also use the same expenses allowances as a childminder.

Tax law and Childcare law are separate things.

There are some childminders who post on this board who only care for children over 8. Can't recall who off hand but with luck they may post on here, so you have someone to contact.

Thank's again Nick, thats really helpful.

Lots to find out and think about Smile

Best to start a new message thread about childminders claiming WTC/CTC as there are probably childminders on here who have claimed so can help you work out how to go about claiming.
As a childminder you run a business, so turnover (income to the business) isn't the same as profit (what you get as income).
