i hope you can help me please Smile

i completed a childminders course approximately 4 and 1/2 years ago (and have since completed a basic first aid (paediatrics) course)but never registered due to the proliferation of cms (cm's?) in the area inwhich i then lived.

i am shortly going to be moving to a 2bed back to back house with small side garden, 2 local parks etc.

my question is would i have to retrain in light of the new regulations or would i be able to complete a 'refresher course' (how much is this likely to cost as i am a single parent and on a tight budget), or would i be able to register straight away?

You would have to start again I would think as it's been so long. You would need to complete ICP, safeguarding and first aid, then apply for crb and ofsted reg. Costs will depend on whether there is a grant from your local authority, when I did mine it was all granted. Contact your local families info

Do you have a certificate from the childminding course?
When did you do the first aid? Why do you call it a basic course - was it not a specific Early Years course?

I would expect that the childminding course is still valid. You would probably need to do some EYFS awareness training, to help you with how to meet the requirements of EYFS. Child protection training would also probably need updating.

First Aid may or maynot be valid. Date of the course and what the actual course was are important, as certificates are valid for 3 years and Ofsted requires Childminders to cover specific things on the course.

Your local Early Years unit at the council should be able to help. They will be able to provide a new childminder registration form, health declaration for etc.

Our Local Authority made my DH retrain after letting his registration lapse for 2 years, so speak to yours and see what they say

4 1/2 yrs ago would have been before the EYFS came in so i would say you'd have to start again.

Fisrt aid usually lasts for 3 yrs but it must be at least 12 hrs long (paediatrics).

When i did my course nearly 2 1/2 yrs ago they said we had to submit OFSTED forms within 6 months or we'd have to repay the course costs, you would need to check whether they'd be willing to subsidise (sp?) your training again.

Best of luck.
