Advice on nanny-housekeeper role in London N1

Hi everybody!

I am a regular on here and would like some advice, please.

Due to ill health, our lovely nanny-housekeeper has decided to quit and return to her home country without notice so I am urgently looking for a replacement.

We live in a nice house in Islington and we have one 13-yr old daughter and a guinea-pig!

Our daughter doesn't really need a nanny anymore but does need a friendly face to greet her when she returns from school in the afternoon, chat to her etc. During the school term, therefore, the role is predominantly cleaning and looking after the house in general.
During the holidays, the person would be expected to spend more time with my daughter (outings to the movies, shops etc.) and less time cleaning. It is very important to me that the person I hire is someone my daughter likes and feels comfortable with. Her relationship with the person who just left was almost like that with an older sister or cousin. We are therefore looking for someone in her early to mid-20's, ideally.
The hours would be Mondays through Thursdays, 8.30 to 6.30.

Is this role as I have described it a nanny-housekeeper role or should I describe differently?
And can anybody recommend a good agency where I could find such a person?

Thank you!

watching with interest as i think this is the kind of arrangement we will be looking for in a few years once the kids are a bit older.

what do you expect to pay for that kind of role as compared to a nanny?

We have had a couple of very nice girls from Homebirds which is primarily a cleaning agency but when we started looking for something like this we explained that we weren't looking for a nanny but wanted the housework done but in addition wanted the school run, tea provided and some general interaction with the children.

The girls are Bulgarian and their English has been variable to start with but very rapidly improved - the girls are intelligent have been university educated. Most importantly from our point of view they have got on well with the children and provided the kind of relationship you describe whilst at the same time being able to keep on top of the housework.

I don't have their phone number but if you google they have a web site.

Thank you Mrs Wobble.

We are still reeling from the very sudden departure of our nanny.

If anyone has any other ideas or indeed is interested in this position, please do post or PM me! Smile

I can recommend someone who is available. Our old nanny/housekeeper who started a new job as we are moving out of London. (she was with us for over three years) However the new family keep changing their mind about what they need and reduced the hours they had offered. Will try pm you (if I can) or you can contact me.
