If a childminder has a childminder's assistant, how many children can they look after at a time and in what age groups? Errrrrrrrrrrrm that's it really, thanks!

Ofsted will assess it depending on the space and resources you have. For me it would be double the amount.

If I work with an assistant (my dh) I can have 6 under 5's but none in the 5-8 age group, so in effect no more than I have now but potenetially increasing my income. However I really only use dh for a regular school run (to a different school) & occasional evening cover should I need to go out!

So there isn't a set amount of children you can have per minder then. Thanks, am just trying to work out how many children DS might be minded with at a time.

The maximum a lone minder can have is 6, including any of their own children.

So for example I can have DD +5 other mindees, but only two of those mindees can be under 5 and the other three have to be under 8.

Sorry, I thought you were a CM Blush. Most of us are allowed no more than 1 under 1, 3 under 5, 6 under 8. This means normally 3 little ones and 3 bigger ones. I would be able to double that with an assistant.

No worries HSMM, thanks for coming back and clarifying :) That's given me a much better idea of what to expect. Thanks again.

Yes its defo 12 children max with a assiant cairnterrier, or 6 children on your own (if they are under 8 years old).
