Salary for Nanny, West Midlands

Hi, I've got a nursery colleague (NVQ3) who has been approached by a family to be a nanny. Hrs would be 7.30-6.00 during term time, 25 days paid holiday per yr, what would be a good salary for the West Midlands area? my colleague is quite young & this would be her first nannying post- I just want to make sure she's looked after!

Thats a lot of hours for a 5 days wk, she sure she wants to commit to so much?? If so it should be a good salary with so many 'over-time' hours.

Those are pretty standard nannying hours really!

Depending on where in the W Mids it can vary hugely but I used to get £8 gross 4 years ago for part-time hours in central Birmingham.

Wages do also depend on job duties and experience so if she's only been working in a nursery for a couple of years it'll be towards to lower end of the scale but £6-9gross is standard for the area.

As she's qualified and it's term time only (so reduced income compared to FT) I'd say £7-8gross/hour.

I am in east midlands and wages vary from min wage for someone in first nanny job maybe with some nursery experience upto £12 an hr for very experienced and qualified nannies.

Depending on how much nursery experience I would say £6 gross an hr with a pay review in 6mths.

Thanks everyone, I think she's got a lot to discuss & make sure they're all clear on boundaries & duties

I usually get £9-12 ph in Birmingham, with qualifications and experience. Possibly £6ph gross, with, like others have said, a review. Depends on amount of children and live in/out though.

Belle03 · 10/02/2011 13:15

jendifa & eastmids do you get the use of a car or do you use your own? Any other tips I could pass on to my colleagues?

Sole use of car in one job, used my own in another. Depended on what parents wanted/amount of driving/location of house, school etc.

Nannying can be really lonely, its important that she knows that. IME, most people either like nannying or nursery work.

How many children, what ages? Its so important that she has a good relationship with the family and the contract is watertight.

Thanks jendifa She's a really lovely girl & she has a very good relationship with the family, there's 2 children, a 2yr old & a baby.
I am a bit worried she'll be lonely as she's used to working in a busy setting but I hope she'll access local groups & the Children's Centre.
I think I'm a bit concerned for her as I want her- & the parents I suppose- to think of everything, it would be such a shame if anything went wrong
