Giving Notice

Hi there,

I have been minding two children for about 4 months.

For various personal reasons I need to give my notice. I was wondering how long of a notice period most people gave? I do not have a contract and am paid in cash.

Any replies gratefully received.

Why do you not have a contract?

If you dont have a contract then you can give as much or as little as you like! but on a professional level i would normally say 4 weeks is sufficient.

There is always a contract - it may however be verbal.

Not clear if you are a childminder (caring for other peoples children at your home) or a nanny (caring for other peoples children at their home).

Also not clear as to which country you are in.

Having a posting history helps, alas this is your first post on Mumsnet so we don't know anything about your situation.

General rule of thumb is 1 week notice, rising to 1 month notice after a certain period.

How about thinking about it the opposite way around? How much notice would you want from the parents if they wanted to stop the agreement?
