CM Club - car seats

I've recently bought a car and am thinking about buying extra car-seats to be able to transport my mindees.

One of my mindees is 3 1/2 and uses a seat with a 5 point harness in his own car so I'm sure his parents would want the same if he was to travel in my car. I know lots of parents of children the same age would use a high backed booster with a normal seat belt.

Do I just need a selection of car-seats or is there a type of seat that can be adjusted to suit various ages/sizes?

As a CM myself, I insist on supplying all my own carseats, as its my legal obligation to make sure the children are safely restrained, some childminders I know do ask parents to supply them though. I have around 10 seats in total, for different ages/stages. At around age 4 (15kg) the child can go into a stage 2 seat, which is high back booster (much cheaper ime) my daugther was able to go into one of those at around 3.5 yrs. You can buy stage 1,2 and 3 combined seats, which will help if you have to transport differing ages, but the ones I have would only last until around 5.5 imo.

hope that helps

The Britax Evolva is good as it is a group 1,2,3 (ie approx 9m to age 11). I also have the Eclipse which is group 1 but handy as it has a v.narrow base & the Eclipse which is also a group 1 but a bit less basic than the Eclipse and can be recline in situ.
I always use my own for the reasons above.

Mind I have an evolva 123, i love it, but imo it wont see anyone past 5.5 yrs, i also have a 2-3 and it goes ALOT higher in the headrest, just something to watch out for

Thanks for the info. I really don't want to end up with 10 car seats ShockGrin!

I've just looked at the Evolva and it looks like it could be a good solution. Does the back come off to turn it into a normal booster seat?

Ideally, I'd like to get 3 seats in the back of the car but I'm almost certain I won't be able to because it's such a little car. I'll go and measure it tomorrow.

no the back doesnt come off the 123, mine really doesnt raise very far, but i know others have said theirs do. The evolva 123 is very wide too, definately not 3 in back of ordinary car.

I'll do a bit more research then.

My friend has a Graco high backed booster and the back comes off but it doesn't have a harness.

Does MN have a carseat section?!!

I am a childminder and recently bought a Mothercare Sola, for one of mindees who is now to big for my Britax Sts Ultra.
Its a HBB with harness, and when the child is too heavy for the harness (18kgs +) then you can remove the harness and use it as a HBB with adult belt. It was reasonably priced too at ?39.99, and is light enough to put in and out of the car as needed!

Also the recaro young sport is a good 123 but may be too bulky if you are trying to fit 3 across.
