Can a childminder care for children as a babysitter?

From being registered, I remembered that under 2 hours a day didn't class as childminding. What if you are already registered?

I know this sounds a bit random, but I've been asked to have a mum at school's children for probably 10 mornings in total. Now obviously I would do this above board, declaring earnings etc. However, my NCMA insurance has lapsed as I haven't been actively childminding, and shan't be until after the summer. If I renew my insurance now, I would have lost money by caring for them... is there a way around this as it's for about 25 minutes a morning, in a 'babysitting' capacity? I doubt it, but thought it was worth asking if anyone knew :)

You're right less than 2 hours a day doesn't require registration, or anything which goes with that, but you are right to be concerned about the insurance aspect of it. Have you looked at other insurances which are cheaper?

Babysitting is usually in the child's own home or during the hours where care is unregulated.
