I've been working abroad for a a year (I'm a nanny) and during that time my CRB and first aid went out of date. I'm now back in the UK, and have applied for the CRB but the first aid is a problem. Does anyone know of any companies that provide the full course, the one OFSTED requires should I need to register? I've been googling like mad but can't seem to find the right thing.

One course I did find is through tigerlily agency, a six hour coursewww.tigerlilytraining.co.uk/-pick-a-course/ I know the website states this is accepted by OFSTED etc but does anyone have any thoughts? I have always thought you had to do the 12 hour course, nothing else would do. I just want to be certain before paying such a huge amount of money and travelling that far.

I'll be living in the Richmond area (St Margarets to be exact) so if anyone knows of a provider anywhere close or around Waterloo please let me know. I can't find anything within an hours travel without several changes train/bus etc and I just can't afford it, I'm out of work and and most of my savings are used up on deposit and first months rent. I'll be moving to St Margarets on 20th Feb.

Have you tried calling Kingston Hospital ? - big baby unit - they are bound to know something, if not offer something themselves.

St. Johns Ambulance and British Red Cross both run 12 hour courses. Often the course title is Early Years First Aid. Courses can cost over £100.
Shorter courses are possible for Ofsted registration, though the course must cover everything that Ofsted requires.

Enhance Services provide a recognised Paed 1st Aid course too. Look on their website for courses in your area as they are generally cheaper than St John & Red Cross. In West/East Sussex there is also a company called Pavilion. Its worth checking with your local early years Dept for a list of approved local providers. In WS they have agreed reduced rates with certain providers too.

staying alive do a very good course if you're in Herts and they are very reasonably priced too

flower1983 · 01/02/2011 20:25

i have done the tigerlily 6 hr intensive first aid , ofsted accepted it as a part of my registration

Samedi · 02/02/2011 00:56

Thanks everybody, I've had a look at some of those and I think I may just do the tigerlily one to keep it short and sweet. Or the St Johns one, theres one in Feltham so fairly easy to get to.

I have just done a 12 first aid course with ABC Medical Services in Reading, very good course, ideal for Ofsted and cost £85. It ran over to Sundays.

EMMinthepink · 13/04/2011 17:05

Hi, I had a great course with 'I want first aid.com' last week, a new company so good prices while they are setting up, based in NW London. Hope that helps.

looneytune · 13/04/2011 19:18

Another who does the ABC Medical services course every 3 years (and now they are based 2 roads up from me so added bonus Grin).

TwistAndShout · 13/04/2011 20:05

DJB training offers one in Hitchin, Hertfordshire for about £40.

It's all day on a Saturday (12 hours), but very good and ticks the right boxes.

fairimum · 13/04/2011 20:11

ABC medical is a FANTASTIC course!

looneytune · 14/04/2011 00:17

fairimum - you coming to play with the nee nor next week? (yes, not only are ABC fab and funny, they let us take the kiddies to play with the ambulance too :))

weathershore · 14/04/2011 05:52

Tigerlilly have been the first course that i did enjoy doing and have done a few over the years would so recommend them.

poopnscoop · 14/04/2011 17:40

You will need the Advanced Paediatric First Aid Course - usually 12 hours. Some good companies have been mentioned above. Safe & Sound is a another. Check with your Early Years team in your borough... ours organises them for us.
