Minding baby with reflux

Hi,

My 7 month old has reflux, is on infant gaviscon but no other meds as he is mostly a happy chucker. It gets worse if he has a cold or is teething - so at best is sick once in four days, at very worst is sick after every other feed. It's never a small posset, we're talking full change of clothes if cloths don't contain it.

I am looking at going back to work, but know that the rule for childcare is not attending for 48 hours after sickness -I'm not sure how they would react to reflux sickness.

How is a provider likely to react to minding my sicky baby? My preference is to use a CM.

not sure about childminder but can't imagine the 48 hour rules apply as clearly not a bug! with my very refluxy daughter we used to feed her and instead of a muslin use a bath towel! lol just easier than the change of clothes/clean up!

As a childminder and a mum of two babies with reflux it really wouldn't be a problem for me as a childminder and the 48hour rule.

To me its very obvious when its just bringing up a feed and a full on sick bug!!

I used to open up the boot of my car and find sick from DD she had such awful reflux.

Talk to a childminder they may have seen it befor

My lovely CM took on DS when he was like this. It isn't the same as a vomiting bug, but you do need an understanding CM. (DS was her second difficult baby in a year - the woman has hugely strong arms from carrying babies around.) More so, since some refluxy babies aren't great eaters of solids either. DS never went anywhere without a lot of changes of clothes.

Do you have a CM already?

I am a CM and I look after a baby with reflux. Baby reflux and sickness due to illness are treated differently.

Thanks everyone, glad to hear it should be treated differently. I have used one CM in the past, for my first child, so I'll have a talk to her about it.

happy chucker Grin such an appropriate thing to call him. Most babies throw back feeds to an extent so any childminder should be fine with it. Just supply lots of changes of clothing and let them know about the reflux.

My Ds (now 13months) had bad reflux when he started with CM at about 7 months, I explained thats what it was, i.e. not illness, and she was fine. He started to grow out of it at around 9 months & now we are puke free Smile so even if you lo is sicky when he starts with CM it may not last much longer anyway.
