Nanny payroll and probation- HELP please

New nanny is due to start on probation quite soon. Of course we hope she will stay for a long time, but are wondering what to do about payslips and tax for the initial (short) probationary period. If it all works out well we intend to use a nanny payroll company (any recommendations?) but don't want to pay a subscription for a year and find that the nanny leaves after 2 weeks and we are stuck with a service we do not need.
On the other hand, she will need payslips and tax paid for the probationary period even if she does not continue to be in our employment. What to do?

Talk to the nanny payroll companies, they are used to this situation and I expect some of them may offer a refund of a proportion not used (though once you start doing payroll it does need to be done until the end of the financial year, such as producing the end P60).

www.payefornannies.co.uk is the one that I usually suggest, as they do mine.

Also, if a nanny does leave after say 2 weeks... would you not be getting another nanny?

Just looked it up... PAYEforNannies offers a temporary subscription for £60 (temporary subscription of up to 3 months).

I thought they would cover that situation. Sure you pay more for only a short period but it's less than paying a full year.

I am sure the company I use give a refund if yr nanny leaves with the first month

I use nanny wage

Always find them very helpful

Read refund policies carefully, as they do sometimes have conditions. NannyWage: Refund Policy (scroll to bottom of the page) states the admin charges and the point at which there is no refund.

In all honesty it's probably better than you don't think about you nanny leaving after only a couple of weeks. Try to avoid setting things up to fail. Think positive, think that your nanny will be staying for many years. After all, why would your nanny leave? Spend time over the first few weeks making sure everything is running smoothly. Tackle even very minor problems immediately, so that they don't fester and turn into big problems.

Even if the nanny does leave, presumably you will need another one to replace her anyway so the subscription will transfer to the new nanny.

Thanks everybody for your comments. While it is true that if this nanny left we would hire a new one, it would not necessarily be immediately, as we ended up hiring sooner than planned to secure what looked like the ideal candidate, as she was available now...

I still think your payroll subscription would be valid, although you should check with the company. I recently reregistered with a payroll company after almost three years and they told me I still had a month left from my previous subscription which they credited to me!

Hi

"Nanny Numbers" (www.nannynumbers.co.uk) offer a pay-as-you-go nanny payroll.

There's not a annual or tempory subscription to be tied to. Think it's only £15 a month.

Hope that's useful!
