Right...We have a DD who is in Year 1 at her school, and a new arrival expected in February Half Term. DD went to a local day nursery and then straight into school. We have a place to the same day nursery for the new arrival for this coming September but are wondering if we could do it a different way.

Both myself and OH are teachers and have to be away from the house by 7:30. We would like DD to be looked after from 7:30, taken to school, and then collected again at 3:15, and brought home. We are home at around 5pm. Ideally we would also like this person to look after the baby too.

Any advice on where we should look for this kind of childcare, what can we expect to pay, and even is this an arrangement that we can expect, or are we expecting too much!

All experiences and advice gratefully received.

£35k-40k I expect for a live-out nanny.
I can do you a more accurate calculation once on a computer this evening. Expect the nanny salary would be in region of £11-13 per hour, as you are in London.

It sounds as if a childminder might suit your needs better than a nursery tbh. Not sure what kind of rates you're looking at around you, maybe £5 per hr?

Would you want someone to be there in the holidays? If not, I imagine that maybe childminder may work.
I did similar nannying hours whilst at uni - would you consider a student or nanny with their own child? Might be a bit cheaper.

We would not need nay child care during school holidays.

TBH the main fact is the mornings and after school. We would like DD to be at home until she is taken to school, and for her to come home after school.

Cost wise it will be cheaper to keep the new arrival in nursery, but pay for someone to take them there in the AM. We can always pick up at 5ish anayway, so won't be too long a day.

May be I should put an 'advert' on here and see what comes.

Thanks for the responses.
