Childminders Club: Fees

This is probably going to sound really dim but.......

it seems that charging in advance is recommended by NCMA, so how do you then work out any days you have had sick, any extra charges etc, for each week.

I am going to charge weekly (I think) I don't want to charge at the end of the week, as I have been with nannying and if they don't pay on time it messes things up, so if I charge ahead, eg, fees to be paid on the Monday of the week, how do I know what to charge??? or is it just hourly/daily fees, and then anything else carried over to the following week?

Confused about this bit this is what put me off last time!

Morning

I have some paying weekly and some monthly. However regular they pay, I charge them the amount at the beginning of the week/month and if I was off sick/holiday (not had this yet), I would deduct that amount from next weeks/months bill.

Great, thankyou

It's daunting at first, this side of things!!
Do you find it hard being assertive with parents?
The parents I've nannied for I've always become friends with but I suppose with childminding you need to keep it more professional as you are running a business - hard though!

I do the same as Hellybelly and adjust accordingly the following month.

It does get easier to be more assertive as you become more experienced, I have found that by explaining to parents that I am running a business and also have bills to pay the same as anybody else, I don't have any problems with late payments.

I won't give you any advice on charging (because I'm not assertive and never do it in advance!)

However, I would say that, yes - I do try to be professional and I do run it as a business, but I very definitely do become friends with the parents that I mind for. The parents do respect me, even though we're friends (apart from any that arrive early - but that's on another thread!) I'm godmother to one of my older mindees, which makes me feel really valued.
