As it's no good in my current job, and I think I'll be leaving there in July (hours are being further reduced and I sadly can't afford to stay)

I need someone to, veeery slooowly, talk me through the process of what I need to get/do etc

I don't know if it's because it's 1am or I'm just dim, but I feel like I need an Idiots guide to OFSTED!

TIA

Oh, I'm a nanny! Possibly would've helped to have mentioned this earlier!

I'm not a nanny expert but my own experiences tell me that only allowing yourself a 3 month window for ofsted to process someone is a little optimistic.

Why not start now?

MilkNoSugarPlease · 20/01/2011 13:23

I need to do a first aid course etc and just don't have the money right now

Will start in March I think

Just need my idiots guide! :o

Well I'm a childminder so it might be different but yes, I'd allow a lot longer than that for registering with Ofsted! Wink

I would definately get in the system now, as long as a first aid course is booked they will be happy to start the long process. First aid courses get booked up in advance. I'm having to renew mine and the only one available is in April, so its a good job I looked. Its £85.

It's changed since I registered, so can't say exactly what the procedure is.

Guide To Registration On The Childcare Register

CR1 By Hand (PDF) - written version of the registration form. However it is probably best to do this online, via Ofsted Online.

Looking at Form CR1, you would select:

A1 - Home Childcarer
A2 - Voluntary
A3 - Give details as appropriate.

Complete all of Section B. In B1 you are Individual. B12 If you are live in, then it's YES. If live out answer No.

Ignore Section C, D

E1 - Leave Blank
E2 - Is the address at which you will be nannying. You can enter multiple addresses. You can leave this blank - but must inform Ofsted of the address once you start your job.
E4 - Yes, E5 - Yes, E6 - No, E7 - No
E9 - No, E10 Weekday All Day, E11 - All Year Round
Ignore E13 and E14

Complete all of Section F. Ignore Section G
Complete Section H, where it says All Providers, or if it says Home Childcarer
Complete sections I and J.

Have you got qualification suitable for registering? You will need to sign up for a First Aid course at some point - not sure when Ofsted ask to see that certificate (in section H you are confirming that you have appropriate First Aid training). In Section H you also confirm that you have insurance (so sort that out as well... at least discuss with insurer that they are able to insure you).

MilkNoSugarPlease · 20/01/2011 21:34

Oh nannynick I LOVE you! :o

I have a level 2 certificate in childcare (need to get a replacement certificate too...bugger!)

Have insurance already with Morton Michel (SP?)

Right, first aid training is next on the to do list!

Thank you ALL!

What is an "Independent Safeguarding Authority check" ?!

Sorry if thats a silly q!

ISA, see my previous posts early last year. Scheme never took off - it's currently on hold. So just answer No to the question asking if you have registration.
It was to be a continiously updated CRB system, putting it simply.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 20/01/2011 22:59

Oh ok! Thank you!!

Just be warned I'll be annoying you with millions of questions :o

Really, thnk you :)

Oh, do OFSTED come nd visit you at work?

Sorry, I genuinely don't know how it works for nannies!

OP posts:
nannynick · 21/01/2011 11:24

Yes they can visit. They intend to visit 10% a year. They have yet to visit me, been registered for years.
There are posts on NannyJob about what happens when they visit... as per usual with Ofsted, it depends on the inspector. They should only be checking that you comply with the statements you declare on the application form.

OFSTED wanted a photocopy of my First Aid cert quite early on in the process- almost as soon as they received my C R 1 form. Make sure you get a reference number out of them as soon as possible- it will start EY..... Just makes it so much easier to get to who you want to talk to. I'm mid process myself and so far they are being quite quick and helpful- I'm hoping it lasts!
