That is dreadful Shock

rubyslippers · 17/01/2011 19:26

Terrible on their part

wonderstuff · 17/01/2011 19:29

Inclusion is great isn't it!

onimolap · 17/01/2011 19:30

I'd tell the school you refuse to raise with the parents the matter of an unorthodox day off unless you have the request in writing from the school (on letterhead paper or auditable email). Without that, he will attend as normal.

nannynick · 17/01/2011 19:40

If the child is severe enough for them to not want him there when the inspector visits, then surely he should have a TA. So he should be there, so that the inspector can see that the school needs additional funding for children with SEN.

dmo · 17/01/2011 19:42

he does have his own TA

as an ex teacher I can tell you this happens all the time!! In the good old says when you got a fair warning they were coming the crap staff and the difficult kids were packed off on residential trips to get them out of the way!!

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 17/01/2011 19:50

that is a bloody disgrace. i agrre, ask for it in writing then take it straight to ofsted.

wonderstuff · 17/01/2011 20:18

Thing is nannynick OFSTED won't come to the conclusion that the school needs more SEN funding, if the boy has a melt-down and disrupts the lesson OFSTED will conclude the lesson is 'unsatisfactory' and the school could fail. One lesson deemed unsatisfactory in an inspection at my old school was judged to be so because 2 children out of 25 didn't make progress, all 25 behaved beautifully, but 2 didn't do much!
Awful they are asking the mum to keep this boy off, but I can understand why, OFSTED are bastards very unforgiving.

LoopyLoopsIsNoLongerFestive · 17/01/2011 20:25

What have you said to them, or to the parents?

LoopyLoopsIsNoLongerFestive · 17/01/2011 20:25

And are they planning to pay you? Grin

Scaredycat3000 · 17/01/2011 20:26

Sadly I have to agree with squiby, I have seen inconvenient staff and students not in when Ofstead visit.

cinpin · 17/01/2011 20:37

I know a child where they always found a reason to exclude him when ofsted were due.

Strix · 17/01/2011 22:31
Shock

I'd be tempted to tell OFSTED I was asked to keep him home.

chitchatinsantasear · 17/01/2011 23:45

Given how OFSTED are, I can understand it. Not nice, but the school is fighting to get a good grade. It's a game, and they are trying to play it. If you're going to get offended, get offended at the way OFSTED does it's gradings, not at the school.

giraffesCantDirtyDance · 18/01/2011 00:18

happens all the time with hmi too

dmo · 18/01/2011 09:20

well child gone in as i cant care for him all day as i go to toddler groups etc with younger children and parents at work

Strix · 18/01/2011 10:26

It's a sorry state of education when the thinks it's OFSTED grade is more important than the welfare (or, perish the thought, education) of the student. OSTED and the school both deserve some blame here in my opinion.

Strix · 18/01/2011 19:47

'tis also a sorry state of education when a grown woman can't remember the difference between it's and its. Blush

It's a sorry state of education when the school thinks its OFSTED grade...

thebody · 18/01/2011 20:46

awful, sad, and what on earth must the parents feel in all this..

Mum2Luke · 19/01/2011 23:21

Why the hell should YOU have him? OFSTED inspects us childminders who have difficult children such as the lad you mind.

I would tell OFSTED about the situation, its not fair to grade the school down just because it has a child with ADHD, he has as much right to be there as anyone else. This should never have crossed the school's minds - take a child out because he is likely to disrupt - absolute disgrace.

Spot the 'deliberate' mistake.

It's pretty tragic (in a funny way) when a pedant makes mistakes when correcting someone else!!

supersewer · 23/01/2011 19:27

THis is disgraceful, the school should have their own strategies for dealing with this such as red card sent to the head if the Class teacher needs assistance. to pretend he doesn't exist is abhorrant!

BarbarianMum · 24/01/2011 19:47

The time for hiding children with special needs away has passed, hasn't it? I agree with mum2luke - an absolute disgrace. Angry
