Are your boys competitve?

I am a childminder with five kids on my books.

My son is in the same class as one of them. They can be very competitive.

I have a policy that they can run if it is safe to do so. Whne we are nearing the school the boys will often compete with one another to see who can line up first. Running in rain and sometimes when it is not safe to do so. Recntly I noticed ice on the floor, but his did not stop them from racing each other.

Is common for boys to be competitive?

I have 3 of my own but I do not really see this as they are different ages.

Any comments

I wouldn't say it's just boys. I have 2 boys of my own (7.9 & 2.6). Ds1 isn't like this (age?) but ds2 IS MASSIVELY like this - 'my press button' 'my open gate' 'my press button' 'my open date' (can you tell our school runs involve lots of pushing buttons and opening gates Angry. I'd have the running ahead things as the girls would love to wind him up to get him in trouble (esp. the youngest who's just turned 3) and one day I said 'that's it, no more children pressing buttons/opening gates, looneytune is doing it from now on as it causes TOO MANY arguements and is dangerous!!' (I'd REALLY had enough of the daily grind!!). But these children are all 2 and 3 years old (4 of them daily) - none of the older ones I drop off/collect are like this so it could just be an age thing? But are these older children you're talking about? If so, it could just be a bit of a clash? Do they get on well in general?

Sorry gate not date and I've not I'd!!!

BTW, I don't have the same problem now, instead of them all racing ahead I get 'looneytune pressing button and 'looneytune opens the gate' - much calmer thank god!! :)

Thanks.

Sorry I did not mentioned their age. Both 6.

My son is the youngest of 4. He does like to be in charge.

They get on fine at school. They can get on very well at times. I am not sure if its because they spend all day together.

Do I insist they walk or just let them run. I have saw many children fall over in the school ground.

I know male can be competitive in general you see this whilst they are driving.

think normal with boys especially.. rutting stags and all that.. as for falling over..usually grazed knees or pride but lesson learned.. till the next time of course!!!

pinkhebe · 12/01/2011 19:55

no, not particularly. They are 7 and 10

My GIRL is like this. Toi claim this is a boy trait is.. well... a tad sexist.
