with a dad outside waiting to come in

I told him last night I don't open until 7.30 (when he booked me at the last minute)

Mean aren't I?

PollyLogos · 05/10/2005 07:30

No, I don't think so because if you open tomorrow he'll probably be there at 7.10!!

That is what used to happen to me when I worked in a nursery school. Once people realised that I got in early (long commute was quicker earlier in the morning) they started dropping of the children earlier and earlier!

Once you know him if there is ever a special need for one day I'm sure you'll be on;y too happy to help out.

PollyLogos · 05/10/2005 07:31

Sorry, should be a comma after 'open'. (in first line!)

katymac · 05/10/2005 07:38

S'alright PollyLogos - no-one does gramma at 7.30

I let them in at 7.29 (my husband was going to come down in his PJ's to tell the Dad off

well done

vickiyumyum · 05/10/2005 19:41

glad you didn't let them in early. i used to have someone who did this, started off at 8 a.m and gradually got earlier and earlier until he was turning up at 7a.m!!!! i had to sit upstairs with the kids getting dressed whilst he used to knock on the door every couple of minutes. had to get rid of them in the end.

ThePrisoner · 05/10/2005 22:48

I've got a family who have recently taken to arriving between 5-10 minutes early each morning - it's only really a problem because they are my first mindees. It really is petty to be annoyed by this, but I do feel annoyed by it! I'm having to set my alarm 15 minutes early now to ensure that I'm up, house is vacuumed and tidied etc.

joanna4 · 05/10/2005 22:57

No it isnt petty because it is your time how would that person feel if he /she was expected to be available for work earlier and earlier as standard they would be pretty hacked off.I have it written in my policies that i expect children at their start time and anything before is strictly at overtime rates.

Flum · 05/10/2005 22:58

Quite acceptable.

ThePrisoner · 05/10/2005 23:04

I will charge them for an extra 15 minutes if they are 10 minutes early, but I would prefer that they're not early than have the money! I tend not to charge extra just for 5 minutes. I'm not good at being assertive, because I do feel like I'm nit-picking just for 5 minutes because it really only applies to the first arrivals. It just makes a difference to have a peaceful slice of toast!

Katymac - did the dad know, when he was outside, that you knew he was there?

katymac · 06/10/2005 06:31

think so - don't care waiting to see about this am

Katymac - how sad am I ... one of my first thoughts this morning when I noticed the time (7.25am) was whether you were hiding behind your front door pretending not be be there! In fact, I nearly logged on just to see whether you were! I really really need to get a life.

katymac · 06/10/2005 22:59

Like my life is so exciting
