i have a 3 years old who goes to pre school for 3 hours a day every day of the week and i need a live out nanny to drop him at school and care for him after school until 6ish for 2 days a week. Willing to pay 150 a week for 2 days work week. Does this sound ok? How difficult is it to find a pt live out nanny? What is good agency to use in woodford area? Anything else i need to know. Thanks much :)

Start time? Where is woodford?

Are you looking at 150 gross?

Nanny would be on call for the pre-school hours usually I feel, as what happens if pre-school is closed, child is mildly ill.
What about travel to/from pre-school, is a car needed? How far a journey?

start time would be 11am as husband works later shifts.

woodford green is north east london.

nanny could use our car for the 5 min drive.

yes, 150 gross for 2 day work week.

So it's a 7 hour day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with three child-free hours while your ds is at nursery? Your suggested rate works out at £10.71 per hour gross which sounds like an OK rate to me. An experienced nanny in London could probably earn more than that but you don't necessarily need someone very experienced as the days are not long and your nanny will only have one child to look after. If the nanny uses your car, you will need to insure her however which, depending on her age and driving experience, could be a hefty additional premium so something extra to bear in mind.

so its not that competitive a rate? I thought it was quite good.

Who would want to work 14 hours? That's the issue I see... it's finding someone who only wants to work that period of time.

You won't know until you advertise. However as a nanny I would prefer to work longer hours as that results in more income yet only involves working the same number of days. So if I were looking for a 2 day job, I would be looking for a job with more hours. That may just be me though... others may want to work less time.

hopefully someone has 3 days somewhere else so 2 days can be ideal for them. Thanks :)

I think the rate is ok but certainly not high. The shorter days could appeal to a nanny with her own child who would like to get home for her own bedtime routine. Finding two part-time jobs to make up a full week is not always easy but if will help if your two days are in a block and not mid-week as it is more difficult for a nanny to fill days around e.g. a Tues/Thurs job or even a Tues/Wed one.

I don't know what the best childcare option would be - I am basically trying to figure out an option that would allow me to stay at work until 7pm on occasion. I am looking at the wrong option for me?
