Hiya, I've not been on for a while but I thought I'd let you know that my inspection went well and I think part of that was because of the advice I got on here. I got a rating of satisfactory which the inspector was pleased with as I've only been minding since the middle of August.

Anyway she told me I needed a form to be signed by parents giving me permission to sign for emergency treatment in hospital. I thought everything I needed signing was on the NCMA forms but this isn't. She said this is really important as it could quite literally be a matter of life or death (Her words not mine!!). I thought I'd let you all know in case you haven't got a form for this, apparently some of the newer NCMA forms do have it on. I've just wrote it on the bottom of the parental permision forms and got the parents to sign it.

Hiya Karen!

Well done! You must be v pleased

I have only been minding for 2 weeks now, so have the fun of inspections in a few months!

Thanks for letting us know about the emergency treatment thing - I am awaiting some forms from NCMA so will check it out!

Jenun71 - There's a thread further down the page with loads of advice about inspections (I panicked a bit and needed help) there are some good ideas about references and such it might be handy when you get yours.

They left me waiting for my inspection for about 3 weeks, just kept putting me off but I think they did it to catch me off guard I don't have another for 2 years now which is a shock as I thought they were every 12 months!

Thanks for that - I will no doubt check it out!

2 years till your next inspection? I thought they were done more frequent than that too! Oh well, you can relax a bit now then! (well YNWIM!)

So when is the first one? Am I right in thinking its 6 months from the registration date?

I got registered in April and my inspection was September so it was 5 months for me if she would have come when she first rang it would have been closer to 4, I think it is usually 6 months. It was more of a friendly chat than anything else she said they use the first inspection just to check everything is OK

There is a space for parents to sign for you to get emergency medical treatment for mindees in the accident/medicine record book but its not the sort of thing you would carry round with you so I also typed out a small slip stating my name, mindees name, date of birth etc and permission for me to get medical treatment and got parent to sign it, then I laminated them all and I carry them in the bag I take everywhere with us with nappies etc in so that I always have them with me in case ever needed.

Thats a really good idea!

Just for the record, a child would receive treatment if it really was a matter of life or death, so the inspector wasn't being truthful!! Hospitals aren't supposed to do any other "intervention" (eg. stitches) without written parental permission though.
