know a nanny who wants to leave but doesnt want to get in any trouble for it. How much notice does she have to give?

think if she had a contract and was paid monthly, she would need to give a months notice, but since no contract, then there's no agreement is there?

maybe a week or 2 weeks, for courtesy and a good ref?

I guess she will want a reference having worked there for 4 years, the mum has turned into a monster demanding she do the cleaning and housework and washing things by hand and using too much electric and such like stuff. Not asking nicely either.

I think if she wants a reference she needs to give a month (of course the mum might cut it short)

Employer is in breach of The Employment Rights Act 1996 (amended under the Employment Act 2002), as there MUST under law be a written statement within two calendar months of starting work, which outlines the main terms and conditions of employment. More details from ACAS

However, backing away from the legal side, the nanny would want a reasonable reference, so should discuss leaving with her employer and agree a date with them. Also agree on a payment date as well and make sure employer produces a P45.

Good luck... leaving is often tricky! I was lucky in my last job, the family gave me 3 months advance notice - I like it when families plan ahead.
