I am currently looking for a mother's help (2 d's per week). Can anyone tell me the best places to advertise?

Hi,

You could try

Gumtree.com
nannyjob.co.uk
findababysitter.com

Good luck!

Also your local netmums childcare board is a good bet.

Alternatively an agency but that does involve paying their fee and you should double check the candidate's credentials and anything they tell you about employing them, especially as most people applying fir your job are likely to have another job alongside but many agencies are shockingly prepared to advise people on what implications that might have.

With that in mind specify a gross wage when advertising.

Childcare.co.uk might be worth a try as well.

Why specify wage? I have an idea in mind about what I am prepared to pay per hour and I am open to negotiate depending on experience.

Many nannies, self included, will expect a wage to be on an ad (or at least discussed at interview). As sn employer you can set the rate. If you have a range in kind dependent on experience etc then put that down but IME '£neg' or unspecified usually means they either haven't thought about it or are offering a wage which is too low to be attractive, neither if which are particularly good things in my book.

Would you apply for a job if you didn't know what the wage was going to be? It might end up being complete waste of time and effort.

Even if you don't advertise with a wage (and bear in mind some candidates will discount you because of that) do talk in gross terms when it comes to discussing money.

Is placing an advert in The Lady considered rather démodé these days?
