Just wondering how many care for children in the same class as their own child.

My son (6) is in the same class as one of the mindess. They are good friends at times but they have had their differences.

I try to be fair when dealing with the both of them.

I can work with them together doing spellings etc.

What experinces have you had?

Does anyone deal with children who belong to your friends?

What has that been like?

Yep, I mind a girl in my sons class (yr4), they get on OKish, Im probley much harsher with my son, than I should be.

Still, mindees are not allowed upstairs, so he can always escape to his room if he wants.

I have cared and still do care for children in the same class as my children (x2).

In one instance, it was a horrendous experience but then the child and her family were a waking nightmare anyway. Even the teachers recommended that I get my child away the minded one.

I always make it clear to clients/minded children if they are in the same class/year :
a) what happens in school is my childs privilage to tell me - not the minded child
b) if things happen in school i will deal with it on a parental level not as a childminder
c) I ensure my child understands that they do not have to with this child all the time - they do not have to be best buddies with them if they don;t want to be.
I also make it clear to client and child that my child does have their own life - I tend not to tell them which clubs and groups my child is attending, my childs space upstairs is theirs to invite people into - minded children aren;t allowed upstairs without express permission. I do not expect my (older) child to stop in to keep the other child company etc.

of course i say and do all this very politely and subtley.

When I take a child my kids know I pay special attention to their views on that child and IF they want me to provide care.

It can and does work out happily in many instances

Thank you for that, much appreciated..

I find that I have to keep things balance between family life and work.

I childmind downstairs now that I have a downstairs toilet. I feel as though my home is a bit more private.

I have to ensure that I am fair with any situation involving my kids and the child minded children.

It has not always been easy dealing with challenging behaviour from the minded children. It REALLY HELPS when the parents are firm and support me.

One 6yr old as mentioned is in my sons class and another 6 yr old is in the same year. I am able to remind parents etc of events taking place has it involves my son too. I have to ensure that I find out in advance what parents want me to do about school things ie school finsihing early (pick up arrangements etc)

I try to ensure that my kids get to do things they want to do.

We do not pratice inviting friends upstairs.

I also try to make the childminded kids feel welcomed in my home.
