Talking with a childminder friend today who was inspected last week she gave me an insight into the new changing of goalposts for this current inspection time.
If it is wet outside she was informed she must bring toys normally played with outside into the setting for children to play with. Not slides or bats and soft balls etc no she was told - trikes bikes skateboards etc! Now is it me perhaps not forward thinking enough or does this eem proper excessive to anyone else.

Rubbish, what about teaching children they have to accomodate for bad weather and play with other toys.

Thats bonkers unless what if you've got a carpet. No way pesky kids gonna tricycle round a house.

Ok uf floor boards I spose.

why can't they just do 'smaller' stuff if its raining.

surely theres a health and safety rule somewhere that would declare that unsafe!

Let's think, a thread about OFSTED ... my favourite ... no, I think I will have to sit this one out ... (unless someone can fetch me a really tall soapbox for me to stand on, and a big bucket to catch the fallout)

katymac · 28/09/2005 07:48

Never mind - they are being phased out....so who cares?

Sound totally stupid to me!

KM what do you mean about Ofsted, do you know if it's the same with the Care Commission in Scotland? Who'll be in charge of us then??
(someone with more sense hopefully!)

katymac · 28/09/2005 08:06

All my friends who are school teachers are talking happily about the imminent demise of OFSTED (within 3 yrs)

But I don't have any idea why or who will be replacng them - sorry

HellyBelly · 28/09/2005 09:41

Didn't know that about Ofsted - interesting!!

As for bikes, trikes etc in the house - unhygienic, dirty and yes, what happened to finding alternatives - aren't kids going to end up completely spoilt??

I have a wide range of toys/activities and I do have a sit on car thing that is just for the house. There's no way all the trikes etc are coming in my house! I tell the children to wipe their feet and take their shoes off when entering the house, surely bikes from outside are going to be dirty?!

We do lots and lots of arts, crafts, messy play etc. when the weather is not so good - kids are VERY happy with that! Also, there's soooo many other activities, why do they need trikes in the house. What about puzzles, imaginitive play, stories, music, dancing etc etc etc???!!!

Sorry went on there - just couldn't believe what was said!!!
