One of the mums of a child in my DS class is looking after children pre and post school,She says she does not need to register as it is officially for less than 1 hour at a time.Often it is more but she says she does not get paid for this so it is ok.She is a bit of a 'soft touch' and I think she regularly has the mindees until after 5 .I overheard 2 of the 'official 'childminders talking about and think they might report her . Is she correct about not needing to register

2 hours in a day - day being 2am to 6pm. Does not apply for children aged 8+

So 1hr before school and 1hr afterschool would make to the 2hr limit.

If not being paid, then not an issue - but are they really not being paid?

The walk to/from school does not count for time purposes in my view, as it's not childcare on the property.

Are there concerns about the children's safety? Would they be at more risk if this person didn't walk them to/from school?

Personally I think the children will be very safe, problem is that it does look as if it regularly is for more than 2 hours and I think someone might report her .She would be horrified I think as she is a lovely person who i genuinely think is trying to help out .From what I can see people are maybe taking a bit of an advantage of her ,phoning to say they will be a bit late and not turning up until afetr 5 when school finishes at 3 and she has them pre school too
I don't want to interfere but i don't want her to get into trouble

Could you let her know about the 2hr rule, to give her a reason to say no to parents who want her to have children for longer?

Yes I think I will mention that Thanks all
