A couple of random questions re forthcoming INSPECTION!

Hi, sorry I hardly post here but I do lurk a lot and would be very grateful if anyone could offer advice, they are really very silly questions!

Inspector coming at 10, I"m assuming she'll be here over lunchtime as I have a pick up at 11.30 and we have lunch as soon as we get back.

a) I normally have lunch with the children. Should I do that and invite the inspector to sit with us or should I eat later?

b) Mindee from preschool always watches a bit of tv straight after lunch while I'm clearing up and putting the babies to bed. She's obviously old enough to tell the inspector she watches it so surely I can still put it on for a while?

Thanks!

I had an inspection over lunch. I asked the inspector if she wanted to eat with me and the children, but she opted to eat her sandwiches in her car while we went to pre school. I decided not to eat with the children that day, so I could concentrate on them and her.

I probably would put the TV on as usual, but be ready to justify it ... ie wind down quiet time. Alternatively, you could get her to help put the little one to bed?

Good luck.

I would just do what you normally do. Last time I was inspected, the inspector came with us to feed the school chickens.

Thanks. Can completely justify it - have TV policy etc, but maybe I'll find something more educational than Spongebob Squarepants...

my inspection went over lunch but I delayed mine, the child had theirs of course. I didn't ask my inspector Blush

my advice is to not do anything different

best of luck

Definitely do what you usually do and think about why/what you do and be ready to justify it. If TV on, find out in advance what show it'll be and be ready to discuss it or have activity out related to it?

Also, when introducing tv you could say something like 'after you've put your plate on the side/washed hands (or whatever), would you like to have 10 mins quiet time watching tv while I do xyz?' - then it makes it clear to inspector that its optional and time limited. :)

ps If you do decide to do this then say it to mindee a few times 1st on other days so she doesn't give you a Hmm or Shock or Confused look! Grin

Best advice I was given was to have all the paperwork laid out on the kitchen table, child records, learning journeys, risk assessments, policies, any parent info you show them regarding the eyfs, any books you use for reference, my calenders, noebooks I use for ideas?reflection etc.. My inspector had a really good read and thanked me for saving time and the coffee!! ( in an insulated mug, of course!)

Good luck x
