Has anyone else registered their hubby / partner as an assistant?

What did you do?

I have just phoned the CIS and they said he needs to go through the registration process. Is this right, cos I have done that and the house has been checked. He has his CRB check!

Is it a CM2 form I need and where do I get it? My CIS had never heard of an assistant!

My DH is reg as assistant but he is a teacher and so is at work

but when I hurt my back last year he helped me lifting etc.

He only works 10 mins away

I only work part time and I only have 1 or 2 mindees so don't need him for the numbers

I think your branch might be being a bit silly.

I would assume that they would be ofsted would want them to be first aid trained.(parents would want them to be also) I dont think you can leave children with an assistant.

I do know a few husband/wife teams then you can leave the children you can take on more children and get the training from the local authority for your partner.

Jenum71 · 27/09/2005 10:49

Yeah I think they are being a bit odd!

My hubby works too - he's a postman so will be around in the afternoon.

I cant believe I will have to go through the process again. Will it need another visit?

OMG I wish I had never started this!

I assume that he would have to have an interview with ofsted.

JELLYJELLY · 27/09/2005 10:53

and have an enhance crb check

Jenum71 · 27/09/2005 10:56

Yeah I guess!

I just may not bother for the hassle thats involved! I dont need him for numbers or anything so maybe its not worth it.

I might get my other half to become reg c/minder just for back up in case i am ill but he willstill have to have lots of training and stuff.

Jenum71 · 27/09/2005 11:06

Yeah they will have to do the same training as us wont they?!

Don't think DH will be too happy about that - he's never been the studious type!

most of it yes such as paediactirc first aid, basic icp/pre reg course and maybe fire safety. I cant see that they would try and enforce things like food hygiene as they dont for us at the moment.

katymac · 27/09/2005 14:42

My assistants have done no courses. Just the enhanced CRB check. (I have had 4)

Jenum71 · 27/09/2005 14:43

Did they have to go through the whole reg process? What area are you in?

OP posts:
HellyBelly · 27/09/2005 14:46

that's all i thought they needed!!

katymac · 27/09/2005 14:47

Norfolk - no, my most recent one was registered as an assistant in June - I think

No inspection at all

Jenum71 · 27/09/2005 14:47

Can an assistant be left with children or not?

Do you know?

I have the same question. Until dh got his new job, there were times when he'd be in the car with us and I'd pop to the shop quickly. Ds would stay in car and mindee would be upset she couldn't stay too (she loves dh!). I told her it wasn't allowed but would it be if he was an assistant?

Jenum71 · 27/09/2005 15:01

yeah thats the type of thing I mean.

Its a tad confusing!

You would need written permission from the parents - but yes that is an ideal situation

Normally (I'm told by my OFSTED lady (and every one is told slightly differently)) assistant would only have sole charge up to 1 hr
